Module 1: Maintain Files & Folders

1. Starting and Shutting Down the Computer

 Start: Press the power button to turn on the computer.

 Shutdown: Go to Start Menu -> Shut Down.

 Restart: Go to Start Menu -> Restart.

2. Customizing Computer and Desktop Settings

 Change Desktop Background: Right-click -> Personalize -> Select Background.

 Adjust Screen Resolution: Go to Display Settings -> Change Resolution.

3. Creating Files and Folders

 Create a New Folder: Right-click -> New -> Folder.

 Create a New File: Open an application (e.g., Word) -> Save As -> Name the file.

4. File and Folder Operations

 Copy: Select the file -> Right-click -> Copy -> Paste in the desired location.

 Move: Select the file -> Right-click -> Cut -> Paste.

 Rename: Right-click on the file -> Rename -> Enter a new name.

 Delete: Select the file -> Press the Delete key.

 Read-Only: Right-click on the file -> Properties -> Enable "Read-Only".

 Hidden: Right-click on the file -> Properties -> Enable "Hidden".

6. Compressing and Extracting Files

 Compress: Right-click on the file/folder -> Send to -> Compressed (Zipped) Folder.

 Extract: Right-click on the compressed file -> Extract Here/Extract to Folder.

7. Backup and Restore Basics

 Backup: Save important files to an external hard drive or cloud storage (e.g., Google
Drive).

 Restore: Retrieve files from backup storage when needed.


8. Best Practices and Recommendations

 Always maintain multiple backups of critical files.

 Use encryption or password protection for sensitive files.

 Organize files into specific folders for easier access.
