For the CBSE Class 10 English Board Exam, the grammar section generally includes the

following topics:

1. Tenses

 Present Tense (Simple, Continuous, Perfect, Perfect Continuous)


 Past Tense (Simple, Continuous, Perfect, Perfect Continuous)
 Future Tense (Simple, Continuous, Perfect, Perfect Continuous)

2. Modals

 Can, Could, May, Might, Shall, Should, Will, Would, Must, Ought to, Need, Dare,
Used to

3. Subject-Verb Concord (Agreement)

 The verb must agree with the subject in number and person
(e.g., She plays football. They play football.)

4. Active and Passive Voice

 Active: She wrote a letter.


 Passive: A letter was written by her.

5. Reported Speech (Direct and Indirect Speech)

 Statement: She said, "I am happy." → She said that she was happy.

homework.

6. Determiners

 Articles: a, an, the


 Demonstratives: this, that, these, those
 Quantifiers: some, any, much, many, little, few, enough, all, both, either, neither
 Possessives: my, your, his, her, its, our, their
 Distributives: each, every, either, neither

7. Prepositions

 Time: in, on, at, before, after, since, for


 Place: in, on, at, under, over, between, among
 Direction: to, towards, into, onto

8. Conjunctions

 Coordinating: and, but, or, nor, for, yet, so


 Subordinating: because, although, while, unless, if, since, when, as, though

9. Clauses

 Noun Clause: I know what she said.


 Adjective Clause: This is the book that I borrowed.
 Adverb Clause: I will go out if it stops raining.

10. Sentence Transformation

 Simple, Compound, Complex sentences


 Removing "too" (e.g., She is too weak to walk → She is so weak that she cannot
walk.)
 Unless → If not (e.g., Unless you study, you will fail → If you do not study, you
will fail.)

11. Editing & Omission

 Correcting grammatical mistakes in given sentences or passages.

12. Gap Filling

 Filling blanks with the correct grammar words (articles, prepositions, conjunctions,
etc.).
How is Grammar Asked in the Board Exam?

 Grammar questions are included in Section A (Reading & Grammar).


 Total Marks: 10 marks.
