CAPChapter1
CAPChapter1
Many computer hardware stores rely on manual inventory tracking methods, which are often
prone to errors, inefficiencies, and stock-outs. These inefficiencies lead to lost revenue,
increased operational costs, and poor customer service. This project directly addresses these
challenges by providing a modern, automated solution to streamline inventory management
processes. The increasing complexity of computer hardware and the growing demand for
accurate stock control highlight the need for a sophisticated system like the one proposed.
The purpose of this project is to design, develop, and implement an inventory management
system specifically designed for a computer hardware store. The system will provide a
centralized platform for managing all aspects of inventory, from receiving shipments to tracking
sales and generating reports. This will include features such as:
- Reporting: Generation of various reports (e.g., low stock alerts, sales reports, etc.).
- User Management: Secure access control with different user roles and permissions.
1.4 Objectives
General Objective: To develop a functional and efficient inventory management system for a
computer hardware store that improves accuracy, reduces operational costs, and enhances
overall business performance.
Specific Objectives:
- To develop a database to store and manage inventory data securely and efficiently.
- To implement features for tracking stock levels, managing orders, and generating reports.
- To test and validate the system to ensure its reliability and accuracy.
- To document the system thoroughly, including user manuals and technical specifications.
This project will focus on the development of a core inventory management system with the
features listed above. The scope includes the design, development, testing, and documentation
of the system. The system will be designed for a single store location initially, with potential
scalability considered for future expansion.
Limitations:
- The system will not integrate with external accounting software in the initial release.
- The system's initial development will focus on a limited number of product categories.
- Integration with existing point-of-sale (POS) systems may require further development.
This timeline is a preliminary estimate and may be subject to change based on project progress
and unforeseen challenges. Regular progress reports will be provided to monitor the project's
advancement.
Chapter 2: Review of Related
Generally speaking, things or goods are kept in warehouses. It is quite challenging for users to
find any product in the warehouses since they must manually do a thorough search across all of
the stockrooms, which takes a lot of work. Because it keeps track of the specific product details
and indicates which stockroom the product is located in, the warehouse inventory management
system is highly useful in preventing this issue. A major part of many manufacturing and goods-
based methodologies is the warehouse inventory management system (Tejesh, 2018). On
supply chain performance, warehouse management systems can offer a more dependable,
efficient, and resource-efficient inventory management system. Before creating software that
can manage the required transactions, the supply chain processes that are carried out in the
warehouse were examined. The software’s ability to improve workflow and provide prompt,
effective handling was also examined (Atieh, 2016). Using RFID technology in conjunction with
a multi-commodity stochastic humanitarian inventory management model, a thorough approach
was developed for the creation of a humanitarian emergency management framework based on
the real-time tracking of emergency supplies and needs (Ozguven, 2013). Governments and
healthcare decision-makers are increasingly concerned with developing efficient and effective
healthcare systems due to the rapid growth in demand for healthcare services, thus
implementing an inventory management system has been beneficial in minimizing inventory-
related costs, maximizing service level with a significant reduction in treatment costs and
resource waste (Saha, 2019). Issues with inventory control frequently lead to disparities in
records and physical counts, which can eventually result in higher than desired inventory levels.
On the other hand, precise inventory records lead to reduced inventory investment and serve as
the basis for programs related to forecasting, ordering, tracking, vendor evaluation, and dead
stock administration (Harrington, 1990).
