II. Modified True or False. Write True if the sentence is correct, and False if otherwise, then
change the underlined word/s to make the sentence correct. Write your answers on the
space before the number (40).

___________1. A prokaryotic cell has a true nucleus and membrane-bound organelles.

___________2. Most prokaryotes have peptidoglycan cell wall and many have a
polysaccharide capsule.
___________3. Prokaryotic DNA is found in the central part of the cell: the nucleus.
___________4. Eukaryotic cells allow different functions to be compartmentalized in
different areas of the cell.
___________5. Cilia in prokaryotic cells, are used to exchange genetic material during
conjugation.
___________6. The inner and outer membrane of the nuclear envelope is made up of
phospholipid bilayers.
___________7. The tRNA travels to the ribosomes, which transfer the code provided by
the sequence of nitrogenous bases in the mRNA.
___________8. The endomembrane system is a group of membranes and organelles in
eukaryotic cells that works together to modify, package, and transport
lipids ans proteins.
____________9. In muscle cells, sarcoplasmic reticulum is responsible for storage of the
calcium ions that are neede to trigger the coordinated contractions of the
muscles.
___________10. The receiving side of the golgi apparatus is called cis face and the opposite
side is called the trans face.
___________11. In G2, the cell is accumulating the building blocks of chromosomal DNA
and the associated proteins.
___________12. The cell cycle is an ordered series of events involving cell growth and cell
division that produces two new daughter cells.
___________13. Some cells enter G0 temporarily until an external signal triggers the onset
of G1.
___________14. In G1, the cell replenishes its energy stores and synthesizes proteins.
___________15. The first portion of the mitotic phase is called karyokinesis or nuclear
division.
___________16. Throughout interphase, nuclear DNA remains in a semi-condensed
chromatin configuration.
____________17. The G1 or Restriction checkpoint is a point where a cell irreversibly
commits to th cell division process.
____________18. The M checkpoint occurs near the end of the metaphase stage of
Karyokinesis.

____________19. The most important role of G1 or restriction checkpoint is to ensure that all
of the chromosomes have been replicated and that the replicated DNA is
not damaged.
____________20. The separation of the sister chromatids during anaphase is an irreversible
step, therefore, the spindle checkpoint must see to it that chromatids are
correctly attached to the spindle microtubules.

III. A. Word Analogy. Below are paired word/s, analyze how the first set of words are related
to each other then write the missing word/s in the blank to complete the second set (20).

IV. :Give what is asked for: (30)

1. State the Cell Theory, give its proponents and explain its significance in the field of
Biology (10).
________________________________________________________________________________

2. Below are the set-ups of experiments of different biologists in order to disprove/support

the theory of abiogenesis, choose 1 then answer the questions that follow: (20)

● Pasteur’s Experiment
a. What title can you give to the experiment set up that you chose? (2)
➔ Curved-Neck Experiment
b. What do you think is the hypothesis of your chosen set up? (3)
➔ the hypothesis of Pasteur’s Experiment is that if cells arise or develop from non-
living things which was the belief over 2,000 years, then they could and should
appear spontaneously in the broth.
c. Do the set up you chose support or wanted to disprove Abiogenesis? Why do you
say so? (5)
➔ The set up clearly disproves the Abiogenesis which people believed in for almost
2,000 years. This experiment explains both perspectives where he first examines
the broth when the curved- neck flash is present and when it is cut, which clearly
shows that living things are present in existing life.
d. How were the result/s of your chosen set-up relate to the Cell Theory? Explain. (10)
➔ The result of the set-up shows the relation of existing cells to the cell theory. The
Pasteur’s Experiment is, I think, the breakthrough of Cell Theory which explains
the importance and significance of existing cells that life arises from life itself
which is shown in the experiment about how the absence of organism when the
curve-neck flush is present and when it is being cut or removed. That that cell is
the building blocks of all living organisms.
