Performance Standard By the end of the lesson, the learners can solve simple equations.
Learning Objective/s: At the end of the lesson the students will be able to:
1.Learn the definition of algebraic expressions, terms, coefficients, constant and variables;
2.Identify algebraic expressions and;
3.Understanding the basics and apply into the real world.
II. Subject Matter
Topic: Algebraic Expression

1. How does your face look when someone asks you to show a happy expression?
2. What if someone asked you to give them an algebraic expressions – what would you do?
Word.
Activity 1:
Suppose values are assigned to letters of alphabet:
Example:
A = 1, B = 2, C = 3, D = 4, E = 5, F = 6, up to Z = 26
Examine the following expression: 4x2 + 3y + 2. Two is a constant number. The variables are
represented by the letters x and y. In an algebraic expression, each individual part is referred to
as a term, together with the + and - marks.
The numerical factor of a term is called its numerical coefficient and the variable factor of a
term is called the literal coefficient. In the term 3x2, 3 is called the numerical coefficient and
x is called the literal coefficient. While the coefficient of 3 is x2.
IV. Evaluation
Direction: Get ½ crosswise and answer the following.
Create an algebraic expression with the following numbers. You can use any letter to represent the variables.
1. -5, 4,-3
2. 2, -6, 7
3. 8,-7,-1
4. -3,-4,- 6
5. x,
y, -9
V. Assignment
Research about expressions that are not polynomials.
