NOTES FROM THE MIDDLE EAST 1Lt. Jennifer Kauffman enjoyed a warm send off to duties overseas as CC Maj. Bob Smith at the June squadron meeting presented her with a huge cake decorated to look like camouage out of respect for her service as a SSgt with the Wyoming Air National Guard. A note from Jennifer tells of her duty there and the humble feelings that overcome her when she attends Fallen Comrades Ceremonies. All the U.S. and coalition forces line up along the roadside on the base and trucks carrying the cofns drive down the middle of the road while troops salute the ag-draped cofns, she wrote. The cofns are then loaded onto an aircraft and the fallen soldiers are own back to the U.S. Within the rst twenty days of duty Jennifer has witnessed three such ceremonies. Jennifer stays busy working twelve hour shifts seven days a week working for six squadrons. She keeps up with CAP Jeffco Senior Squadron events on the Internet when she is not studying for her college class or working out to stay t.
GET INVOLVED AND JOIN THE FUN!
Every activity in Civil Air Patrol requires team effort. One important aspect of volunteering is being involved. Getting to know others makes the team effort more enjoyable and makes the activity run smoothly. Our CC, Maj.Bob Smith, wants every position to be three deep, that is three people can step up to serve at each of the positions so necessary to fulll a SAREX or a REDCAP. This column is designed to: acquaint you with other leaders who presently serve the squadron, and spark your own willingness to serve in an area of your interest and/or expertise.
Crowds thronged around unusual aircraft, food kiosks, amusement attractions, and organizations that contribute to safety and search and rescue efforts. Warbird rides thrilled aviation enthusiasts. Dogs, great and small, sought shade under a friendly wing, grandmas held their precious charges, and folks brought their elderly parents out for a stroll around the aviation festival.

CAP is ready to help. Whether bumps, scrapes, or a little too much heat, experienced volunteers like Maj. Dale Short, minister to emergencies with tender loving care. Dale is a eld rescue expert. Planning, and putting the right people together make for a successful event. 2 Lt. Bridget Skjordahl planned the squadrons kiosk at this years Open House sponsored by Rocky Mountain Metro Airport. Rescue support such as reghters and emergency medical technicians gave rides to kids in their jaunty carts and showed folks the re engine and ambulance equipment.

and Development Center, Lockheed-California Company in honor of his 50 years service to Lockheed. Johnsons Internet biography states, Johnson played a leading role in the design of 40 world-renowned aircraft. Of these, more than half were of his original design including the F-80, Americas rst production jet, the double-sonic F-104 Starghter, the high altitude U-2, the spectacular 2,000 mph YF-12A, and the SR-71, which is featured on page 2. Members asked Todd for more information about Lockheeds Skunkworks that produced the SR-71. To order the book, please see http://www.amazon.com/Skunk-WorksPersonal-Memoir-Lockheed/dp/0316743003/ref=pd_bbs_1? ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1213936747&sr=8-1 Todd has said, Amazon readers give the book 4.75 stars. For $10 you get a page-turner with insight into Kelly Johnson, the diculty of making those remarkable aircraft, and what went on behind closed doors during the cold war. Its a popular book, said Todd. I've seen it at Borders as well. Lt.Colonel Dick Sargent remarked Of all the outstanding programs AE Ocer Bachmann has produced for the squadron this year, his own presentation was the best.
Please see photo, p.4
2Lt. DICK REVETTE, p. 2 Dick sent information about the development of the SR-71 which he saw when he worked for Lockheed as a film technician for the rm. Dick frequently contributes photos to Airwaves.
