Listening 1
Part A
Narrator: Part A. You are going to hear two friends, Lucy and Dan. discussing the food on a menu.
Lucy: Hi, Dan. Sorry I’m late. Wow! You've managed to get a pretty good table.
Dan: Yeah. When I booked, I asked for one by the window. The view's great, isn’t it?
Lucy: Yeah, it is. You can see the river from here... and the university.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------?
Dan: No, I haven't, but I’ve had some good recommendations, so I thought I’d try it out... Where have you
been, anyway?
Lucy: Oh, I had to go and see Professor Oliver about an assignment I’m doing, and ended up talking for ages...
Have you had a chance to look at the menu yet? I’m starving.
Dan: Well, I’ve had a quick look at the starters, but I’m not that hungry, so I might just have a main.
Lucy: Oh, well, I’m definitely having a starter.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------. I've been so busy all day! Let’s see...
Part B
Narrator: Part B. You will now hear the rest of the conversation.
Dan: I saw they have tomato soup on the starter menu. I know you always like that.
Lucy: Mm, yes, I do, but I feel like something different this time. Maybe seafood... Yeah, I think I'll have the
seafood chowder and some garlic bread.
Dan: I didn't think you liked seafood.
Lucy: Well, I haven't tried it for ages. I might like it now. Anyway, it's just chowder, so it should be mostly
liquid.
Dan: Oh, well. It's your dinner.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------?
Lucy: I’m not sure. I haven’t decided yet.
Dan: I was going to order the roast lamb with potatoes, but then I saw they have bacon and egg pie. It’s my
favourite, so I’ll probably go with that.
Lucy: Hm... I don’t really like bacon. The flavour’s too strong. Maybe something with more vegetables in it...
There is steak and vegetables, but I don’t really like steak... Let’s see... um... I think I’ll have the spaghetti
bolognaise...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------?
Dan: I wasn’t going to have dessert, but if you are, I’ll get one...
Lucy: I’m really hungry, so I’ll definitely get something. Um... I think I’ll have the apple pie. That sounds
good.
Dan: Okay. The chocolate mousse sounds good, too. I think I’ll have that.
Lucy: Alright.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------.
