INTERNSHIP Opportunity for Young and dynamic Students

Yudh-Nashia-Virudh, Department of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of Punjab

The Government of Punjab has launched a initiative, Yudh-Nashia-Virudh to strengthen and


streamline the state’s response to substance use and challenges associated with it.

It is envisioned as a centralised knowledge and capacity-building hub that provides strategic


guidance, training, and thematic support to professionals across sectors to address the
aforementioned concern. This initiative bridges policy, evidence, and practice to enhance
service delivery at both systemic and grassroots levels. With a focus on developing Standard
Operating Procedures (SoPs), delivering specialised training, and promoting academic
engagement, TRC aims to create a consistent, scalable, and sustainable model of integrated
care to people suffering from substance use disorder and related psychosocial concerns.

The centre emphasises a holistic and preventive approach to address substance use as part of
the larger mental health landscape, fostering a collaborative ecosystem for impactful change
across the state.

About the Internship

A specially designed internship programme commencing during the summer break of the
year 2025, curated exclusively for aspiring professionals in the development sector to gain
hands-on experience in the field of substance use prevention and community mental health.
Interns will be actively engaged in the operations of the Yudh-Nashia-Virudh, gaining
exposure to evidence-based intervention planning, capacity building, and strategic
programme development. The internship will offer immersive learning in the development of
Standard Operating Procedures (SoPs), monitoring frameworks, and the design of promotive
and preventive initiatives to address the concern.

About the Interns

Interns working with the Yudh-Nashia-Virudh will contribute to research on substance use
prevention, mental health systems, and psychosocial intervention models at both the state and
community levels. They will compile thematic summaries, observe capacity-building
sessions and sensitisation workshops, and document best practices and field-level challenges.
Interns will support social scientists and stakeholders in addressing project needs and
collaborate on designing preventive strategies targeting substance use and related mental
health concerns. They will also engage in inter-institutional meetings with government,
academic, and mental health organisations.
Interns' Roles and Responsibilities

●​ Interns will be required to work on substance use prevention, mental health systems,
and psychosocial intervention models at both the community and state levels.
●​ They will gain practical exposure by supporting the formulation as well as the
implementation of capacity-building sessions, sensitisation workshops, and field-level
program execution led by experienced mental health professionals.
●​ Interns will provide collaborative support to the Yudh-Nashia-Virudh team in
addressing project challenges and ensuring the smooth execution of ongoing
initiatives.
●​ Interns will actively contribute to the development of Standard Operating Procedures
(SoPs), intervention planners, and community-centred promotive and preventive
mental health strategies.
●​ Participation in inter-institutional review meetings and technical discussions with
senior experts, academic institutions, and mental health organisations, will be an
integral part of the internship experience.​

Eligibility Criteria
●​ Open to individuals who are currently enrolled in or have completed a full time
Master’s in Psychology/ Applied Psychology/ Counselling Psychology/ Clinical
Psychology/Social Work/Psychiatric social work/Public health/Public Policy/Public
aministration.
●​ Begin the internship from summer break 2025.
●​ Available for full time engagement for 2 months, six days a week.

Work Timings: -

●​ 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

The candidates will be screened and selected for the position of an intern on the following
selection criteria:-
