Introduction
Having a personal mission and vision is crucial to living a meaningful life especially in this busy world (Covey,
2004). A personal mission serves as a principle that helps one make decisions and take actions towards the set aims
and values, while vision explains what one desires to achieve in the future.
My journey toward articulating my personal mission and vision started by trying to determine my core values. I
growth, family, community and creativity. Understanding these values was important because it would help me
For the second step, I attempted to clarify my purpose. It was important to me to answer the following questions:
“What motivates me?” “What do I want my legacy to exist on?” In my case, purpose is to enable individuals with
education and creativity, cultivate a flourishing environment, and support my community. Expressing this purpose
gave me insight and helped me make progress in building my mission and vision statements.
Step 3: Picture the Future
In this step, I envisioned what my ideal future looks like. I thought about what it would be like to engage in work I
deemed meaningful, develop positive relationships, actively improve myself daily, and continually learn. I saw
myself setting the pace for others to inspire progress driven change and for broader community support so people
