January 10, 2003 Dear Service Manager: Honda Motor Co., LTD. is announcing a Safety Recall campaign for certain 2003 Odysseys. Some fuel tanks were manufactured with surface imperfections that could allow fuel to leak from the tank. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source could result in a fire. Repair Strategy The repair is to inspect the fuel tank, and replace it if it has surface imperfections. For inspection/repair information, refer to service bulletin, #03-008, Safety Recall: 2003 Odyssey Fuel Tank. You can find this service bulletin on the Integrated Service Information System (ISIS). Although the affected VIN range is approximately 6,400 vehicles, only about 3,600 vehicles within that range are affected by this recall. You must verify vehicle eligibility by doing a VIN Status Inquiry on the iN before beginning work on any vehicle. Some Odysseys affected by this recall may be in your new vehicle inventory. According to Federal law, these vehicles cannot be sold or leased until they are repaired. To see if a vehicle is affected by this recall, do a VIN Status Inquiry before selling it. Customer Notification Customers will be sent a notification of the campaign during the week of January 27. Parts Information Order parts through your facing parts center. Only some of the affected vehicles will need a new fuel tank. Do not order parts for stock; order parts only when you have a vehicle that has failed inspection. Sincerely, American Honda Motor Co., Inc. Honda Automobile Division
