Technical data
HP Installation and Startup Service for HP StorageWorks Virtual Library System (VLS) Data Deduplication Upgrade provides installation and configuration of the accelerated deduplication feature of the HP StorageWorks VLS when upgrading from a non-deduplication VLS. This service provides the analysis, design, installation, configuration, and testing services necessary to deploy the increased functionality of data deduplication services on your HP StorageWorks Virtual Library System at your location. Data deduplication is a hot, new storage technology for managing explosive data growth and providing data protection. This backup technique eliminates redundant data from storage by saving a single copy of identical data and replacing any further instances with pointers back to that one copy. With special consideration for data availability, reduction and compression, consistency, currency, and I/O performance, our service specialist will collaborate with your designated IT storage administrator to upgrade the VLS, plan, design, and enhance the configuration. Working with you, the HP service specialist will perform an initial examination of your application and provide the business-specific considerations required to enhance the overall reduction/compression and availability of data during installation and long-term operation. As part of the engagement, configuration and test plans will be developed with you.

To help ensure that the installation is completed to address your requirements, an HP service specialist will provide verification testing; a brief demonstration of the deduplication operation; and clear, concise documentation outlining the configuration. This service can be customized to various degrees of complexity to better suit your needs. HP StorageWorks Virtual Library System Data Deduplication Upgrade provides installation and startup for a VLS data deduplication environment when upgrading from a non-deduplication VLS, and includes initiating a backup during a single contiguous deployment. The service includes software installation, configuration, testing, documentation, and a customer-orientation session. For installations that are beyond the scope and complexity of this installation and startup service, including complex deployment at multiple sites, installation of additional backup applications and deployment of HP StorageWorks Virtual Library System Data Deduplication into your organization's IT system management framework, creation of ad-hoc or custom reports, and other custom design services, HP can deliver additional services through a Statement of Work (SOW).

Delivery specifications
Service planning deliverables include the following. The service specialist will work with the Customer to: Collect the information needed to plan the deployment of HP StorageWorks Virtual Library System (VLS) Data Deduplication specified by the Customer Identify backup sets and configuration parameters within the scope of the service. The HP or partner service specialist will participate in a dialogue to determine an applicable configuration for the environment with respect to data deduplication requirements such as: deduplication ratios, capacity requirements, recommended cartridge sizing, naming conventions, and retention periods. This will be a single pass with the assistance of the service specialist. Multi-phase or incremental rollouts over a period of time are not in the scope of the service but can be accommodated at additional cost. Conduct a kick-off discussion with the Customer to review the installation plan Review deliverables and completion criteria for this service Discuss, identify, and assign ownerships to any service prerequisites and agree on a completion timeline Document the environment in which HP StorageWorks Virtual Library System Data Deduplication will be deployed Initiate one Customer backup and work with the Customer to devise a configuration plan for the remainder of the backup environment including media servers and additional backup streams
Service deployment
Service deployment activities include the following: Review the engagement with the Customer using the pre-delivery checklist Install the HP StorageWorks Virtual Library System Data Deduplication licenses, if required Reconfigure existing virtual libraries Validate the operation of deduplication functionality Verify functionality by initiating a backup (Customer will do a restore to verify the process) Provide the Customer with documentation the configuration
HP will run the appropriate installation verification tests required for this service. The HP or partner service specialist will conduct an orientation session of up to 4 hours in duration for HP StorageWorks Virtual Library System Data Deduplication License-to-use (LTU). The orientation is informal, typically conducted at a management console with selected members of the Customers staff, and is not intended as a classroom activity or substitute for formal product training. The orientation session will include the following: Familiarization with the verification of firmware and driver levels of the various components Familiarization with the VLS Data Deduplication User Interface application and a review of the basic features of the Command View application Familiarization with the details of the installation report (or similar design document) provided to the Customer Review of basic maintenance tasks to be performed on a regular basis Review of the features and functionality provided by deploying HP StorageWorks Virtual Library System Data Deduplication

Service eligibility
Hardware and software prerequisites for the installation of HP StorageWorks Virtual Library System Data Deduplication must be met prior to the beginning of onsite delivery of this service. Customers are eligible for the delivery of this service if they meet the following prerequisites: Firmware and memory on the VLS product family must meet minimum eligibility requirements. For example, nodes will have to be B nodes or have the equivalent memory size. In addition: - Data deduplication requires additional memory for each HP ProLiant server node on the VLS platform. - For data deduplication to be enabled, enough licenses must be installed to equal or exceed the disk LUNs (i.e., usable storage) on the device. Partial data deduplication licensing is not supported. Deduplication licenses will be installed via the VLS GUI license plug-in, or via a Command View for Tape Libraries management station. The Customer's host servers, applications, databases, storage, SAN, and network components must be installed and fully operational at supported operating system and revision levels prior to delivery. A complete backup is necessary to initialize accelerated deduplication.
Service limitations
Activities such as, but not limited to, the following are excluded from this service: Application integration or integration of third-party products or peripherals not included with the system Backup, recovery, and support of the operating system, other software, and data Service deployment on hardware not covered by an HP warranty or HP support agreement Service deployment on hardware covered by a third-party maintenance contract Services that, in the opinion of HP, are required due to unauthorized attempts by non-HP personnel to install, repair, maintain, or modify hardware, firmware, or software Installation and configuration of network gateways not provided by HP as part of this service Planning, design, implementation, or assessment of the Customer's overall SAN or fabric architecture Performance modeling, testing, and optimization of the HP StorageWorks Virtual Library Data Deduplication environment, beyond the initial installation Migration of Customer data from prior storage volumes; HP can provide Data Migration Services at an additional charge Any documentation other than that mentioned in this data sheet Integration with any hardware and software components not supported by HP StorageWorks Virtual Library System Data Deduplication License-to-use Deployment of HP StorageWorks Virtual Library System Data Deduplication software revisions, including hot fixes, patches, service packs, or upgrades from prior versions (the service will deploy the software version currently available as of the beginning of the service engagement) Migration of data between storage devices or hosts, or migration or deinstallation of the Customer's legacy storage resource management environment
