CSPs Gymnasium is on its way!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE PRESS RELEASE Contact: Ilker Gurbuz, 443-7575-CSP
Chesapeake Science Points (CSP) high school students, teachers and parents gathered at the parking lot on Tuesday morning to witness an unforgettable moment for the schools 7 years history. It was the time to give a start to build the dream gymnasium which the school administration has been working on for more than a year. We would not be standing here today to celebrate a ground breaking without the support of our County Executive said Chairman of the Chesapeake Lighthouse Foundation (CLF), Spear Lancaster, while introducing John Leopold to the audience. County Executive and Anne Arundel County Council have given CSP $ 750,000 in grants for renovation of our existing building and new gymnasium construction over the last three years. I am so proud of CSPs accomplishments so far and it is an honor to be able to help the school said Leopold who was one of the key role players for Marylands Charter School Law in the legislatures. Anne Arundels pro charter leader mentioned that there are only two charter schools in the county but CSPs local and national awards are the evidence of success. 9,540 square foot gymnasium will have a full basketball court, locker rooms, a teacher office and two storages designed by Arium Architects. 3-D animation of the gymnasium can be watched at http://mycsp.org/video/gym.mp4 . General contractor, KasCon, has been awarded the $ 1,430,000 project and it is expected to be completed on August 10, 2012. We have just finished Chesapeake Math and IT Academy project in Laurel and very familiar with charter schools; and we are very comfortable with the completion date said Jeff Kassman, president of KasCon. CLF's $1.9M initial investment to Hanover campus, $1.5M investment to Laurel campus , and this coming $1.5M investment with its total indicates that entire investment was not only help strengthen the quality of education in the state of Maryland but also supported the Maryland's economy during these financially difficult times. CSP started with 120 students in a 17,000 square foot building 7 years ago, then it grew into a 42,000 square foot building and then it will reach its maximum capacity of 462 students with this final project in a 51,500 square foot facility. We thank

the entire CSP Community for their ongoing support throughout this growth process. CSP will be holding a fundraising event Together We Built for the gymnasium project on May 11th at BWI Marriott from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Chesapeake Science Point Public Charter School is a nationally recognized charter school located in Hanover MD with a focus on science, math and technology education, and operated by Chesapeake Lighthouse Foundation, Inc. CSP is open to students from all of Anne Arundel County with a lottery based admissions process. CSP consistently places at the top in test scores in several categories at the state level and has competed and placed high in STEM competitions locally, nationally and internationally.
