GeoData Management
This course will introduce you to the Landmark utilities that help you manage your projects and data. It covers the various data loaders that OpenWorks provides and gives you practice using them. This course will give you the background to:
Approach the problems inherent in data loading Create projects with different subsets of your data Understand some basic data model concepts Use the various project and data management utilities
Course Objectives
What utilities and applications comprise the GeoData Management package and how they fit into your workflow How to create a project Database concepts and Terms How to load and view well data How to load and view curve data How to use data mgmt editors and utilities How to import and manage culture data How to import and export map data How to export well and curve data
What is OpenWorks?
A framework that integrates multiple geoscience disciplines into the same computer environment.
3D and 2D seismic interpretation well log analysis geologic interpretation mapping velocity modeling data management
Allows you to interact with more than one application Allows you to transfer data between applications OpenWorks allows different kinds of geoscience applications to work together and share data.

It is difficult or impossible to interact with more than one application at a time, or share data between applications.
Integrated Applications in OW
OpenWorks lets you work the way you are accustomed to working without a computer. You can view a wide variety of data, study multiple problems at the same time, and analyze the same set of data in many different ways.
Database Concepts
OpenWorks uses the ORACLE relational database management system (RDBMS) for storing and retrieving project data. The Relational Database Management System RDBMS is a software system for maintaining the integrity of data stored on hard disks. Data is organized into groups of related data called databases. RDBMS provides a controlled interface to databases, allowing multiple users to access/change data without corrupting it. A database in an integrated collection of data that exist independently from any particular user/application.
Data Organization
In a database, related data is grouped into tables. Tables are composed of rows and columns In a row, a piece of data is called a field.
