GEOSYNTHETIC REINFORCED SOIL TECHNIQUE

The soil reinforcement by geosynthetics generates

a mechanical improvement of the soil by
supporting tensile forces. The reinforcing elements
are flexible and, due to their low bending
stiffness, can only absorb axial tensile loads. The
improvement acts to reduce the shear force that
has to be carried by the soil, and to enhance the
shearing resistance in the soil by increasing the
normal stress acting on potential shear surfaces.
