sound in films? O In todays lesson, I learned that sound is very significant

Star Wars franchise), sound is 50% which indicates that it makes half of the film. Sound is included in a film to establish tone and atmosphere and helps the audience detect the genre of the film. The use of sound delivers hints about what the plot may be and the characters The purpose of sound is also to help audience suspend disbelief to create realism Overall, without sound , the film would be uninteresting.

understand sound and how they are applied in a film O Ambient Sound- Background Sound used in a O

scene or location (includes water, wind, crowds etc.)
Diegetic- Any sound presented as originated from source within the films world, this includes the characters voice and sounds from object in the scene. Non-Diegetic- Commentary sound Score- music created specifically for the film Song- music Voiceover- A piece of narration in a film Dialogue- Conversation amongst the casts Foley- Added sound effects on top of the film
O Synchronous- Sound and film going together,
matching certain movements occurring in the
scene e.g. footsteps correspond to feet walking O Asynchronous- This is often found in Horror films. When the sound and video does not correspond. O Sound Bridge- When the sound plays through transition O Sound Motifs- When the sound associates with a place, event or character
