A. DEFINITION OF WHILEREADING
These are activities which are designed to
help your students to experience the text
holistically as we do in the first language
rather than to study it discretely as
students usually do in a foreign language.
The activities are intended to help the
students to respond to the text in similar
ways to those they would if they were
reading it in their first language.

B. PURPOSE OF WHILEREADING

While-reading activities is
defined as activities that help
students to focus on aspects of
the text and to understand it
better , a few examples of while
reading activities could be any
one of the following

C.STRATEGY OF WHILEREADING
Identify topic sentences and the main idea of
paragraphs.
Distinguish between general and specific ideas.
Identify the connectors (however, moreover,
thus, etc) to see how they link ideas within the
text.
Check whether or not predictions and guesses
are confirmed.
Skim/scan a text for specific information.
Answer literal and inferential question

D.Skimming and scanning


Skimming and scanning are different types of reading.
Skimming is essentially reading through something very
quickly. It gives you enough information to be able to
retain a summary, but not enough to remember all you
read. It gives you an impression of what you are
reading quickly.
Scanning is typically reading through quickly in search
of specific key terms or phrases. Scanning tends to
cause you to skip over a larger amount of material than
skimming because when you are scanning anything that
isn't what you are looking for you bypass and don't even
attempt to retain most of it, normally.

E. PROCEDURE
Heres an example of a whilst-reading
activity for the textBeginners' guide
As you read the text try to see
pictures in your mind of players from
the Premier League teams which are
mentioned.
Also talk to yourself about any
information which is new to you.
