This document outlines an adaptive leadership framework consisting of 6 principles: 1) get on the balcony to observe patterns and anticipate challenges, 2) identify challenges without ready solutions requiring changes in values/behaviors, 3) create a holding environment for addressing these challenges, 4) cook, maintain, and give back the conflict by sequencing work, regulating distress, and keeping focus, 5) protect voices of leadership from all levels to encourage experimentation and learning, and 6) point out organizational contradictions while providing cover to staff.
