Moisture
Strength

Raw materials required

Durability
They follow the JIT manufacturing strategy
Is a strategy used in the business to reduce costs by reducing the
in-process inventory level.

It is driven by a series of signals that tell the production line to

make the next piece for the product as and when it is needed.

Just-in-time manufacturing can lead to huge improvements in

quality and efficiency.

It can also lead to higher profits and a larger return in investment.

A reorder level is set and new stock is ordered when that level is
reached. There is no overstocking of raw material. This saves on
space in the warehouse.

MANUFACTURING PROCESS
Raw material stocking
The primary raw materials which include the kraft paper order is
placed with the supplier i.e. the Kraft Paper mill, the supplier
supplies the materials by a lorry

The supply time is approximately 1 week from the time of order.

Rolls of Kraft paper for corrugating are available in many sizes to

fit the production equipment at different corrugating plants.

At the plant, the kraft paper is separated into different grades,
which will be used for the medium and the liner.

A knowledgeable packaging specialist works with a customer to

determine the strength required for the corrugated cardboard
container being planned
Then, when a plant receives an order for containers, a product engineer
specifies the combination of medium and liner to produce a cardboard to match
the customer's requirement.

The raw material is stocked in the warehouse, the storage capacity is for 10
days i.e. approximately 20 tons.

Corrugating
Using powerful fork-lifts, skilled equipment operators select, move, and load
rolls of kraft paper at one end of the corrugator.
Corrugating is also done in a machine that utilizes heavy rollers.
One roll of cardboard is corrugated and then glued between two other layers
(liners) by the same machine.
The glue is then cured by passing the cardboard over heated rolls.
A finished piece of corrugated cardboard consists of a single
corrugated layer sandwiched between two liner layers. Flute size in
the corrugators changes the width of the corrugated medium.

Forming the blanks into boxes:

At the end of corrugators, a slitter-scorer trims the cardboard and
cuts it into large sheets called box blanks. Box blanks pop out of
the slitter-scorer like wide slices of toast and slide into an
automatic stacker that loads them onto a large, rolling platform.
From here, they will be transported to the other machines that will
convert them into finished containers.
PRODUCTION PLANNING AND CONTROL
Production planning and control in the company is done to gain:
Cost leadership
Short delivery times
Flexibility
Reliability
PRODUCT DESIGN

specifications.
PROCESS DESIGN
undertakes batch production, process layout has been preferred.
machines performing similar type of operations are grouped at
one location.
 flexibility of equipment and personnel, lower investment on
account of comparatively less number of machines, higher
utilization of production facilities.
QUALITY CONTROL
It begins with the suppliers of the Kraft paper used to make corrugated cardboard.
The quality of the Kraft paper is tested for the GSM, BF, and strength.
During the process the quality is controlled by measuring the same with the standards
and then the final product is tested with the BF factor to ensure quality product before
delivering to customers.
MATERIALS MANAGEMENT
It is managed from the time it is delivered from the place of supplier.
The Kraft paper which is the basic raw material is brought into the company neatly
packed, the roles are then unloaded from the truck and stored in the warehouse.
There is no tied-up inventory. Materials are supplied continuous basis by the supplier
on requirement. This helps in non-blockage of working capital funds.

MAINTENANCE MANAGEMENT
The spare parts of various machines are kept in stock to ensure uninterruption in
production process.
There is generator facility available to ensure uninterrupted power supply and thereby
reducing the lead time.
