Introduction
• Many of us these days depend on
the World Wide Web to bring the
world’s information to our
fingertips, and put us in touch
with people and events across
the globe instantaneously.
• These powerful online
experiences are possible thanks
to an open web that can be
accessed by anyone through a
web browser, on any Internet-
connected device in the world.
Internet
• Refers to a collection of computers and cables
forming a communication network
• Intented to carry computer data, similar to telephone
network which is intented to carry conversation
• Carries a various data, including e-mail,
videoconference, instant messages and contents of
Web pages
• Physically, the internet or usually called as the NET
• Connects and links millions of businesses, goverment
agencies, educational institutions, and individuals
uses a portion of the total resourcesof the currently
existing public telecommunication networks
• Envisioned by the Advance Researched Projects
Agency (ARPA) of the US Goverment where they
called it as ARPANET
Reasons People use Internet
• Communicate with and meet other
people
• Access a wealth of information, news
and research findings
• Shop for goods and services
• Bank and invest
• Take a class
• Access sources of entertainment and
leisure such as online games, music,
videos, books and magazines
Intranet
• A private network contained in
an enterprise that includes
connections through one or
more gateway computers to the
outside internet
• Its purpose is to share company
information and computing
resources among employees
• It can also facilitate working
groups and for teleconference
Extranet
• Private network that uses Internet
technology and the public
telecommunication system to
securely share part of a business’s
information or operations with
suppliers, vendors, partners,
customers, or other businesses
• Can be viewed as part of a
company’s intranet that is extended
to users outside the company
Internet Backbone
•Like transportation system is how
the inner structure of the Internet
works
•Just as interstate highways connect
major cities and carry bulk of the
atomative traffic across a country
•These major carriers of network
traffic are known collectively as the
Internet Backbone
Bandwidth
• amount of data that can be sent over your Internet connection per
second
Cloud Computing
• Storing and accessing
data and programs over
the Internet instead of
computer’s hard drive
• Examples are Microsoft
Office 365, Google Drive,
Apple iCloud, Google
Chrome Browser, Google
Calendar, Google Keep
etc.
World Wide Web
• According to Tim Berners-Lee (developed specification for HTML, HTTP and URLs), Web is
an abstract space of information
• Collection of electronic documents
• The mostly used part of the Internet where it features hypertext
• Hypertext - text which contains links to other texts

nimbler programs focused on a single task.
Web apps, in particular, run these tasks
• Inside the web browser and often provide a
rich, interactive experience.
• Google Maps is a good example of a web app
