This document describes a solar tracking system project that uses a hydraulic system to track the sun's movement and maximize solar panel efficiency. The project was carried out by 4 members under the guidance of a professor. The system uses a solar panel, hydraulic piston and cylinder, mass flow regulator, and stand. It allows the panel to track the sun throughout the day which increases energy capture compared to fixed panels. While hydraulic tracking is easy to design and reliable, it does bear some risks of hydraulic fluid leakage and requires manual pumping. The project aims to contribute to meeting increasing energy demands.

Introduction • Presently, it seems as though there is a great deal of interest in renewable energy. This movement has been the cause of quite a few very innovative devices being developed and implemented. • One of these innovative devices deals with capturing solar energy and convert it into useable energy through the use of solar panels. One particular device is couple with a semi- automatic device that tracks the sun throughout the day as the day progresses. This design is intended to maximize the system’s efficiency. Need Of Project To increase efficiency. Objective
• To design and construct a solar tracking
device that will be all-seasonal. • To design a system that will track the sun as the day progresses. • To maximize the efficiency of the device . Design of Solar Tracking System Components Of System 1) Solar panel 12v DC and 1 amp 2) Hydraulic Piston & Cylinder Bore = 40mm Stroke = 100 mm 3) Mass flow regulator 4) Stand Project Set Up Components Of Project Advantages a) Hydraulic solar tracker is easy to design and manufacture. b) Increases reliability of hydraulic control system compared with other solar tracker c) Hydraulic solar trackers generate more energy than other tracking system like electric solar tracker. d) No electricity used for tracking mechanism. e) It is pollution free. f) Maintenances cost is low. Disadvantages a) More chances to leakage of hydraulic oil. b) Required manual power to pump the oil in cylinder. Conclusion This is the first attempt made towards utilizing the gravitational energy as a driving force for solar tracking systems and also in providing a suitable tracking system for the remote places. In view of increasing demand for the electrical power, this tracking system can contribute a little (around 87.6 kW-hr per year) in the fulfillment this demand. Result & Discussion Increases the efficiency of the System. Future Scope Use of multiple panels on panel seat, to increase the returns from tracking system. System can be modified to suite other solar applications like solar air heating and solar water heaters. Hydraulic pump may be used to move panel back to its original position.
