The document discusses several new vaccines for beef cattle including a new lung plague vaccine that uses protein antigens identified through reverse vaccinology making it safer and more stable. It also discusses a subunit vaccine against mastitis caused by Streptococcus uberis and research showing cows developed broadly neutralizing antibodies against HIV when injected with a protein designed to mimic the HIV envelope. Finally, it mentions research into a new cattle tick vaccine is showing promise to provide 12-month immunity at 90% efficacy.

New Vaccines for Lung Plague Vaccine • The new lung plague vaccine uses protein antigens from a variety of strains of Mmm found in Kenya which makes the new vaccine safer, easy to manufacture and stable at room temperature. Our team identified these protein antigens using “reverse vaccinology.” Subunit vaccine against mastitis caused by Streptococcus uberis, in injectable emulsion. Cow Antibodies to the Rescue (2017)
In the new research study by Burton and colleagues, the researchers
injected four cows with a protein called BG505 SOSIP that was designed to mimic the HIV envelope. In a little more than a month, the cows developed broadly neutralizing antibodies against HIV. Antibodies produced by one cow after 42 days neutralized 20% of the 117 HIV subtypes tested. More than a year after immunization, this cow had created antibodies that neutralized 96% of HIV subtypes. Research into new cattle tick vaccine showing promise Due to the high costs associated with losses to the cattle industry, the cattle industry and governments worldwide have identified the development of a tick vaccine with 12-month immunity duration and 90pc efficacy as a high priority.
