Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is an anxiety
disorder in which time people have recurring, unwanted

CONTAMINATION
The need to clean and wash because of the fear
that something is contaminated and/or may
cause illness, and ultimately death, to a loved
one or oneself.
Examples:
• Fear to use public toilets
• Bleaching the floors a certain amount of time everyday
• Fear of shaking hands with people
• Fear of coming to contact with chemicals
CHECKING
The obsessive fear to prevent damage, fire,
leaks or harm. People with this type of OCD
repeat the checking several times, although it
is unnecessary.
Examples:
• Door locks
• House alarms
• Windows
• Water taps
HOARDING
Collecting items that are judged to be of
limited value by others such as old
magazines, clothes, receipts, junk mail,
notes, or containers that is caused by fear
of losing items that may be needed or
emotional attachment.
INTRUSIVE
THOUGHTS
Where a person generally suffers with
obsessional thoughts that are repetitive,
disturbing and often horrific in nature. For
example, thoughts of causing violent or sexual
harm to loved ones.
