WHAT IS OBESITY?
Overweight and obesity are defined as abnormal or excessive fat accumulation that
presents a risk to health.

A crude population measure of obesity is the body mass index (BMI), a person’s
weight (in kilograms) divided by the square of his or her height (in metres).

Obesity is defined as having a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or more.

This condition puts people at a higher risk for serious diseases, such as type 2
diabetes, heart disease, and cancer.

BMI is a calculation that takes a person’s weight and height into account.
