WHAT IS WASTE MANAGEMENT?
• Waste management is collection, transportation, and disposal of garbage,
sewage and other waste products.
• According to U. Arena:-
“Waste Management is devoted to the presentation and
discussion of information on solid waste generation, characterization,
minimization, collection, separation, treatment and disposal, as well as
waste management policy, education, and economic and environmental
assessments.”

TYPES OF WASTE MANAGEMENT
• Solid wastes:- The solid wastes are the useless and unwanted substances
discarded by human society.
Solid rubbish is commonly broken down into the following types:
 Plastic waste
 Paper/card waste
 Tins and metals
 Ceramics and glass
• Liquid wastes:- Wastes generated from washing or manufacturing

processes of industries are called liquid wastes. Such a waste is called
sewage.
TYPES OF WASTE MANAGEMENT
 Hazardous waste:- Hazardous or harmful
waste are those that potentially threaten to
public health or the environment.
• Organic waste:- Organic waste comes from

plants or animals sources. Commonly, they
include food waste, fruit and vegetable peels,
flower trimmings can be classified as organic
waste.
• Recyclable waste:- Recycling is processing

used materials (waste) into new, useful
products. Waste that can be potentially
recycled is termed "Recyclable waste". E.g.
Paper products
METHODS OF WASTE DISPOSAL
• Landfills:- This process of waste disposal
focuses attention on burying the waste in the
land. There is a process used that eliminates
the odors and dangers of waste before it is
placed into the ground.
• Incineration/Combustion:-Incineration or
combustion is a type disposal method in
which municipal solid wastes are burned at
high temperatures so as to convert them into
residue and gaseous products.
• Recycling:-
Recycling is the process of converting waste
products into new products and consumption
of fresh raw materials.
• Composting:-
Composting is a easy and natural bio-
degradation process that takes organic wastes
i.e. remains of plants and garden and kitchen
waste and turns into nutrient rich food for
your plants.
• The Bottom Line: In waste category, some items or wastes that cannot be
disposed of without special handling which will prevent contamination
from occurring.
• Avoidance/Waste Minimization: The simple procedure to manage waste

is to reduce creation of waste materials thus reducing the amount of waste
going to landfills.
• Waste to Energy (Recover Energy): In Waste to energy method, non-

recyclable waste items are converted into useable heat, electricity, or fuel
through a variety of processes.
OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY
1. To study the importance of waste management.
2. To study the various types of waste.
3. To study and understand the various methods of waste
disposal.
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
Research methodology is the specific procedures or techniques used to
identify, select, process, and analyze information about a topic.
Collection of the data:- In two ways
•Primary data
•Secondary data
Secondary data is collected through internet, published research papers.

CONCLUSION
The study revealed the major problem regarding waste and also about how
to dispose different kind of waste. Waste could be solid or liquid waste. Both
of them could be hazardous for human health and environment.
•Waste can be put into landfills, incinerated, recycled, or composted.
•The most sustainable way to manage waste is to recycle and compost.
•Waste Management is crucial issue that needs governmental attention.
•It is crucial issue that required to educate people and convince them to
adopt practices for reduce, reuse and recycle.
