FACTS ABOUT ADOLESCENT PREGNANCY IN THE
UNITED STATES
-In 2016, there were 20.3 births for every 1,000 adolescent females ages 15-19, or
209,809 babies born to females in this age group.
-Births to teens ages 15-19 account for 5.3% of all births in 2016.
(HHS, 2016)
STRATEGY FOR REDUCING TEEN PREGNANCY
-I plan to reduce teen pregnancy by promoting the use of the “Bedsider” app.
-Bedsider is an online birth control support network for women 18-29 operated
by Power to Decide, the campaign to prevent unplanned pregnancy.
-Power to Decide works to ensure that every young person has the power to
decide if, when, and under what circumstances to get pregnant—increasing their
opportunity to pursue the future they want.

BEDSIDER APP
Through use of the Bedsider app, you can-
-Explore birth control methods, compare methods, and find answers to frequently
asked questions.
-Find a health clinic near you, have an online consultation with a provider and have
birth control delivered to your door, and learn about access to emergency
contraception.
-Set reminders to take birth control and for upcoming health care appointments.
-Read articles and view real stories of other adolescents that use Bedsider.

STRATEGY FOR PROMOTING BEDSIDER APP
-Apply for a grant with the OAH TTP Program to help promote the Bedsider
App
-The OAH TPP Program is a national, evidence-based program that funds
diverse organizations that are working to prevent teen pregnancy across the
United States. OAH invests in the implementation of evidence-based TPP
programs, and provides funding to develop and evaluate new and innovative
approaches to prevent teen pregnancy.
(HHS, 2017)
COST OF BEDSIDER APP COMMERCIAL OR AD
-For local television stations, advertisers can expect to pay anywhere from $200 to $1500 for a
30-second commercial (Aland, 2017).
-A 30-second spot broadcast nationally averaged around $123,000 as of 2016 (Aland, 2017).
- YouTube advertisers pay per view of their ad, with an average cost-per-view ranging between
$.10 – $.30 (Alleger, 2012).
- With Facebook, you pay any amount that you want. You can spend anywhere from $5- $50,000
a week. Facebook will then try to get you as many views as possible for the amount that you spend
(Facebook Business, 2019).
