    Challenges faced in signal processing

    1. Data acquisition should be setup at highest possible


    sampling rate.
    2. Multi resolution analysis.
    3. Minimization of jitter in the averaging process.
    4. Analyzing of low frequency signals and their latencies in
    frequency domain using Short time fourier transform.
    5. In discrete wavelet transform signal is decomposed into
    high frequency and low frequency components which
    requires filters to analyze them.
    Recording parameters

    1. Electrode montage: most performed with a vertical montage (high


    forehead [active or positive], earlobes or mastoids [reference right &
    left or negative], low forehead [ground]
    2. Filter settings: 30–1500 Hz bandwidth
    3. Time window: 10ms (minimum)
    4. Sampling rate: usually high sampling rate of ca 20 kHz
    5. Intensity: usually start at 70 dBnHL
    6. Stimulus type: click (100 us long), chirp or toneburst
    7. Transducer type: insert, bone vibrator, sound field, headphones
    8. Stimulation or repetition rate: 21.1 (for example)
    Auditory Brain Stem Response

    The auditory brainstem response (ABR) is an auditory evoked


    potential extracted from ongoing electrical activity in the brain and
    recorded via electrodes placed on the scalp. The measured
    recording is a series of six to seven vertex positive waves of which I
    through V are evaluated.
    Wave I through III – generated by the auditory branch of cranial
    nerve VIII and lower.
    Wave IV and V – generated by the upper brainstem.
    In the ABR hearing test, patients are made to hear a simple click which is
    a transient pulse of a particular amplitude or more appropriately, `level'
    which is measured in dB SPL. The experimentally determined ABR to this
    stimulus is a series of seven distributed peaks at particular time stamps,
    all within the span of 10-12ms
