Good Agricultural Practice (GAP)

refers to the practices that address environmental,

economic and social sustainability for on-farm
processes, and which result in safe and quality food
and non-food agricultural products (RA 10611)

Code of GAP for Food Safety

means practices used to prevent or reduce the risk of
hazards occurring during production, harvesting, and
postharvest handling of produce (RA 10611)
Constraints in the implementation of GAP in our country
 Knowledge constraints - low awareness of farmers, consumers
and LGUs on the importance of GAP certification on health
and environments.
 Cost constraints - when the agricultural farming are increasing
in production cost but the prices of domestically produced
agricultural products are down due to the uncontrolled inflow
of cheap imports.

has no assurance on how it was grown and how it manages
during the production to harvesting period to avoid
contamination from physical, chemicals and biological
hazards.
