V. Course Description:
 This course is intended to refresh

the basic arithmetical and
mathematical concepts and skills
that will enable the students to
work successfully with numbers
and to familiarize the students
with the transactions and basic
concepts applied in business.
VI. General Objective:
 The study of this course serves as
a preparation for higher business
mathematics and related course.
This study will also build students’
skill in computation, analysis and
interpretation, thus giving them
the basic application of
mathematics in business of their
various fields of interests.
VII. Specific Objectives:
At the end of the semester, the students are expected to:
 Perform Basic operations
 Round off numbers
 Work with fractions
 Compute for base, rate and percentage
 Calculate percent of increase and decrease
 Apply principle of proportion
 Compute for cash discounts / discount problems
 Solve for mark up / mark down problems
 Calculate employee’s earning based on the given type
of compensation
 Compute simple interests
 Compute depreciation using different methods as
Straight Line, Service Hour, Declining Balance and
Double Declining Balance
 Apply the Rules in reconciling bank and checkbook
records

IX. Methods of Teaching:
 Lecture-discussion, seatwork,
board work, group activities.
X. Course Requirements/
Assessments:
 Quizzes, long test and seat work will be
regularly administered to the students
through out the semester. At the end
of every nine weeks term examinations
will be given, the midterm and final
examinations. The coverage of each
term will be the topics discussed and
covered on the specified term.
XI. Criteria for Grading:
The following shall be used as the basis
for giving grades.
 Class Standing 70%
– Quizzes 50%
– Activities/Assignments/
Oral Participation 20%
 Term Examination 30%
(Mid-Term, Final)
The Final Grade will be computed based on

the 50 / 50 policy (50% of the Midterm
+ 50% of the Tentative Final Grade).
