Brief Resume of The Intended Work
Introduction & Need of Study
Walnuts are among the most widely consumed commercially grown tree nuts in the world. Many health benefits
have been claimed for the consumption of these, including reduced risk of cardiovascular disease, coronary
heart disease, type II diabetes treatment, and prevention and treatment of certain cancers, and the lessening of
symptoms attributed to age-related and other neurological disorders. The polyphenols in walnuts can help fight
this oxidative stress and inflammation. A subgroup of polyphenols called ellagitannins may be especially
involved.

STUDY ON RHUMATOID ARTHRITIS: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disease that

can cause joint pain and damage throughout your body. RA is an autoimmune disease, which
means the arthritis results from your immune system attacking your body's own tissues.

• NO CURE OF RHUMATOID ARTHRITIS : Although there's no cure for rheumatoid arthritis, early treatment
and support (including lifestyle changes, medication, supportive treatments and surgery) can reduce the
risk of joint damage and limit the impact of the condition. The disease-modifying anti rheumatic drugs
(DMARDs) are laden with severe side effects on the body as a whole. So a need arises to explore
scientifically some of the safe and effective naturally available foods/drugs and Walnut is one such
product which has the potential to manage the Rheumatoid Arthritis.

Walnut in Rheumatoid Arthritis: The pharmacological research showed that walnut kernel could clear away
the free radical, inhibit the lipid peroxidation damage. Due to presence of high density lipoproteins (HDL)
but we are observing tremendous scope of walnut in RHUMATIOD ARTHRITIS. the aqueous (2.87 and 1.64
g/kg) and ethanol (2.044 and 1.17 g/kg) Extract of fruit showed antinociceptive activity in hotplate test
suggesting a promising analgesic and anti-inflammatory agents against diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis.
Objective of study
• Scientifically validate the adjuvant effect of walnut in the management of rheumatoid arthritis .
• To develop effective , safe and low-cosat drug for rheumatoid arthritis
• To give an marketing boost to the local walnut industry by validating its medicinal effects besides walnut
being a known dry fruit.
