INTRODUCTION
• In 1956 India took a major step towards the
establishment of its heavy engineering industry when
Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd., (BHEL) setup at Bhopal. It
progressed rapidly and three more factories went into
production in 1965. The main aim of establishing BHEL
was to meet the growing power requirement of the
country. BHEL appeared on the power map of India in
1969 when the first unit supplied by it was
commissioned at the Basin Bridge Thermal Power Station
in Tamilnadu. Within a decade, BHEL had commissioned
the 100th unit at Santaldih, West Bengal.
• In the world power scene, BHEL ranks among
the top ten manufacturers of power plant
equipment and in terms of the spectrum of
products and services offered, it is right on top.
• BHEL has its headquarters at New Delhi. Its
operations are spread over 11 manufacturing
plants and number of engineering and service
divisions located across the country.

the shop which deals with the manufacturing
of transformer and locomotive components
such as Tank, Plates, and Nuts and Bolts.
Fabrication shop is divided into three parts-
– Bay-0
– Bay-1

CORE BUILDING FOR THE POWER
TRANSFORMER
CORE BUILDING :-
CRGO(Cold rolled grain oriented silicon steel) is used
to build the core.
The grain of CRGO are oriented in the direction of
rolling.
CRGO is used to reduce hysteresis losses.
The thickness of these sheets are available either in
the dimension of 0.23mm or 0.27mm.
The lamination of these sheets minimizes the eddy
current losses.
BURR LEVEL:-
While cutting the edges of these sheets, there is
some generation of rough surfaces, these are known as
burr level.
CNC machines are used to control these burr levels.
Core building is done on three 65 t cradle, which
ensures minimum jerk during lifting the core.
UNLACING:-
This is basically the phenomena of removal of top
end frame of the core assembly so that the coils can
be mounted on the core.
RELACING OF CORE:-
The top yoke is again attached to the rest of the core;
the sheets are attached one by one or in packets to
the core limb in the erect position. Then the job is
dipped in oil and then heated to remove any kind of
moisture in it.
