Definition of Bioethanol
Bioethanol made from two words, that is “BIO”
and “Ethanol”.
BIO

Something that associated with

living things
BIOETHANOL

ETHANOL

The chemicals that have a chain of

alcohol and have two chains of
carbon. The formula of Ethanol is
C2H5OH

So, Bioethanol is ethanol which make from reaction that do by organism

or in the other word, bioethanol is a form of renewable energy that can
be produced from agricultural feedstocks.
Raw Material
 Sugar Cane
 Grain
 Wheat
 Corn
 Barley
 Cassava
 Potatoes
 Other biomass
Process Making of
Bioethanol
The process making bioethanol are in 3
step :
1. Fermentation
2. Distillation
3. Dehydration
Fermentation
RAW STARCH

In this step, the reaction is Hydrolysis of raw with

a-Amylase and Glucose Amylase

GLUCOSE

In this step, Saccharomyces cerevisiae will

decompose glucose into Pyruvate acid

PYRUVATE ACID

This is DECARBOXYLATION step

ACETALDEHYDE

In this step, Alcohol Dehydrogenase will convert

acetaldehyde into ethanol

ETHANOL
Distillation
Dehydration
This is process to get Ethanol into 99,5%
in purely. Ethanol 99,5% can use as Bio
fuel and alternative energy. There are
three ways in the dehydration process.
There are :
1. Azeotrope distillation

2. Extraction distillation

3. The using of molecular sieves

Diagram of all Bioethanol Making Process
The Function of Bioethanol

 As raw materials to make bear and

whiskey
 In 70%, can use as antiseptic for the
wound
 As raw material in perfume industry
 As polar solvent in laboratory and
factory
 In 99,5%, as alternative energy or as bio
fuel
Negative Impacts

 Occurred price competition on Biofuel

and foodstuff.
 Fuels with more than 10% ethanol are
not compatible with non E85-ready fuel
system components and may
cause corrosion of iron components
 The areas for growing crops for
Bioethanol production is acquired
through to deforestation
The Impact of Bioethanol
Positive Impacts
