Introduction to ICT

Information and Communications Technology
ICT refers to technologies that provide access to information through
telecommunications. It is similar to Information Technology (IT) but focuses
primarily on communication technologies. This includes the Internet, wireless
networks, cell phones, and other communication mediums (TechTerms).

Web 1.0, 2.0, 3.0
Web 1.0 - The Read-Only Web
- Example:
Web 2.0 - The Read-Write Web
Users can now interact and contribute content.

- Examples: Youtube, Wikipedia, RSS Feeds, Twitter


Web 3.0 - The Semantic Web
1. Uses Resource Description Framework -- The way computers understand us.

Juan drinks water.

Juana drinks juice.

Juan is the subject; drinks is the verb/predicate; and water is the object.

2. This also promotes decentralization for a faster performance.

Adv: more secure, and faster.

- Examples: Brave (browser), Storj (decentralized drive)


Convergent Technologies
When different forms of technologies cohabitate in a single device, sharing
resources and interacting, creating new technology and convenience (Roland,
2017).

Social, Mobile, and Assistive Media
Social Media - Are computer-mediated tools where networks of people come
together to communicate or disseminate information via the internet.

Mobile Media - This refers to mobile devices which from the word itself promotes
mobility while gaining access to communication and information.

Assistive Media - A group of hardware/software where persons with cognitive,


physical and communication disabilities gain access to information via computers

Online Systems, Functions, and Platforms
Systems - System [in the context of technology] is defined as a set of things
working together as parts of a mechanism or an interconnecting network (Oxford
Dictionary)

Functions - system-allowed set of operations

Platforms - WHERE these systems with set of functions are being implemented.
Online safety, security, ethics, and etiquette
1. Review your privacy settings
2. Delete your browsing data when using public computers.
3. Always update your system to the latest version
4. Do not install an app that is unknown to you
5. Do not send sensual pictures or videos to anyone in social media
6. Do not open or entertain phishing sites or messages

2. Search Engines - online platforms on where you input the keywords you want
to search. Google search will be our focus.
