Overhead Group Set Adjustment

The valve Lash should be Checked after

every 5000 Hrs or if there is a engine
problem such as No Power , Overheat ,
Heavy Smoke

Note: The Coolant Temperature must be

less than 60° c (140 ° f), before adjusting
the overhead group set.

Tool
Linde Material Handling

BR 318 Cummins Engine QSB 6.7 Common Rail (Tier 3)

Setting No1 cylinder to TDC

Align the vibration damper /

crankshaft speed indicator ring so
that the TDC indicator is at the 12
o’clock position. If both No 1
cylinder rocker levers are loose start
checking the valve lash. If both No
1cylinder rocker levers are not
loose, rotate the crankshaft 360 °

Note:

The engine must be rotated in

a Clockwise Direction
forwards looking aft.
Linde Material Handling

BR 318 Cummins Engine QSB 6.7 Common Rail (Tier 3)

Note: If no TDC mark is present on

either the vibration damper or the
crankshaft speed indicator ring, align the
large gap in the crankshaft speed
indicator ring to the 5 o’clock position
(2). The dowel pin should also be visible
in the 9 o’clock position (1). Check that
both No 1rocker levers are loose. If they
are not loose, rotate the crankshaft 360°
and re-check.

With the engine in this position, the lash

can be checked on the following rocker
arms:

(E = Exhaust, I = Inlet)

1I, 1E, 2I, 3E, 4I & 5E

Using the barring tool, rotate the crankshaft

360°. Following the same steps and
specifications as previously stated measure
the lash of the following rocker arms and
adjust if necessary:

2E, 3I, 4E, 5I, 6I & 6E.

The main cooler assembly is

mounted into the right-hand
chassis side frame.

The main cooler assembly is made

up of three segments:

— Top Segment – Engine Coolant

—Middle Section – Air to Air

Intercooler

—Bottom Section – Hydraulic

The water pump is driven by the multi rib

auxiliary drive belt.

The tension from the automatic auxiliary

belt tensioner can be released by rotating
the tensioner in a Counter clockwise
direction.

Note: Rotating the automatic tensioner in the wrong direction will result in damage.
