COVID – 19
A DANGER TO HUMAN RACE
10 DESCREIPTIONS OF
THE DISASTER (COVID – 19)

• NAMING THE VIRUS & DISEASE :

Official names have been announced for the virus responsible for COVID-19
(previously known as “2019 novel coronavirus”) and the disease it causes.
DISEASE: CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19).
VIRUS: SERVE ACUTE RESPIRATORY SYNDROME CORONAVIRUS 2 (SARS – COV2)
• WHY DO THE VIRUS AND DISEASE HAVE DIFFERENT NAMES :
There are different processes, and purposes, for naming viruses and diseases.

Viruses are named based on their genetic structure to facilitate the development
of diagnostic tests, vaccines and medicines. Virologists and the wider scientific
community do this work, so viruses are named by the International Committee
on Taxonomy of Viruses (ICTV).

Diseases are named to enable discussion on disease prevention, spread,

transmissibility, severity and treatment. Human disease preparedness and
response is WHO’s role, so diseases are officially named by WHO in the
International Classification of Diseases (ICD).
• DEFINATION OF CORONAVIRUS :

Coronaviruses are a group of related viruses that cause diseases in

mammals and birds. In humans, coronaviruses cause respiratory tract
infections  that can range from mild to lethal. Mild illnesses include some cases of
the common cold (which has other possible causes, predominantly rhinoviruses ),
while more lethal varieties can cause SARS, MERS and COVID – 19.

• DISCOVERY OF CORONAVIRUS :

Coronaviruses were first discovered in the 1930s when an acute respiratory

infection of domesticated chickens was shown to be caused by infectious bronchitis
virus (IBV). In the 1940s, two more animal coronaviruses, mouse hepatitis virus
(MHV) and transmissible gastroenteritis virus (TGEV), were isolated.
Human coronaviruses were discovered in the 1960s. The earliest ones studied were
from human patients with the common cold, which were later named human
coronavirus 228E and human coronavirus OC43.

CAUSE OF CORONA VIRUS :
ORIGIN AND HOW IT SPREAD

Many health experts believe that the new strain of coronavirus

likely originated in bats or pangolins. The first transmission to
humans was in Wuhan, China. Since then, the virus has mostly
spread through person-to-person contact.

ROLE OF GOVERNMENT

As on date, world is unable to find any kind of vaccine in order to cure Corona Virus
disease. Hence, below are few initiatives taken by the Indian government to fight
against this disaster.
1 Corona Screentest was started at Airports, when there was not a single case reported in India.
2 14 Days Isolation was mandetory for all international passegenrs.
3 Abandon all Internation flights when corona cases reached 100.

4 Government took the initiative to Lock down the complete country when number of cases
increased to 500.
5 Government release a package of 1.7 Lakh Crore to fight against this virus.
ROLE OF THE CITIZENS

* Social Distancing is the key to break the chain of Virus.

* Do not spread rumors .

* Help the needy people in the possible manner.

* Consult to doctors in case of fever and cough.

* Maintain cleanliness at home and surrounding.

* Cover your face.

* Work from home.

CASE STUDY ON THE PLACE, WHERE IT
HAD BEGUN

In December 2019, a pneumonia outbreak was reported in Wuhan, China On 31

December 2019, the outbreak was traced to a novel strain of coronavirus, [83] which was
given the interim name 2019-nCoV by the World Health Organization (WHO) later
renamed SARS-CoV-2 by the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses. Some
researchers have suggested the Huanan Seafood Wholesale Market may not be the
original source of viral transmission to humans.
