    . Maheshwari sarees are


    made either or pure cotton or
    silk-mix fabrics. The borders
    of these sarees are usually
    narrow, ornamented with
    zari and solid color, stripes or
    checks on the body of the
    saree.
    Gujarat sarees
    Gharchola

    Containing large zari


    checks all over the body
    of the saree, the border
    is a rich red with
    detailed zari work.
    Tamil Nadu sarees
    Kanchipuram sarees

    The materials used in


    Kanchivaram sarees
    include pure, heavy silk,
    zari, gold and silver
    thread.
    Konrad sarees/Temple sarees

    This is a specialty saree from


    Tamil Nadu. Also known as
    Temple Saree, it used to be
    draped on the Gods and
    Goddesses in the temple.
    Andhra sarees
    Mangalagiri
    The design includes
    borders with closely-
    woven patterns,
    embroidered with
    zari. Made of pure
    cotton.
    Narayanpet sarees
    Made of silk and cotton
    having stripes of zari.
    Karnataka sarees
    Mysore silks
    Kerala sarees
    Kasavu
    Pure cotton sarees
    Maharashtra
    Paithani sarees
    A kind of gold and silver
    brocade. Known as
    paithani sarees.
    Orissa sarees
    Bomkai sprees
    Also known as Sonepuri
    sari, a Bomkai saree is a
    unique woven sari from
    Odisha. The original
    weaving is made in low-
    count cotton yarn which is
    generally heavy, coarse and
    dyed in intense colours

    Brocades
    Specialisation of Bananas
    Famous for kinkhaab or
    kimkhwaab
    Types of brocades
    1-Kinkhwaab-Kinkhwab
    was originally an elegant,
    heavy silk fabric with a
    floral or figured pattern
    known most for its butis
    and jals woven with silk as
    the warp and tilla as the
    weft.
    Kinkhwaab
    These are called katan (a thread
    prepared by twisting a different
    number of silk filaments) brocades.
    Pot-thans are lighter in textures (lower
    thread count) than Kinkhwabs but
    closely woven in silk and all or certain
    portions of the pattern are in gold or
    silver zaris. These fabrics are mostly
    used for making expensive garments
    and saris.
    Chanderi

    Made of cotton or blend


    of silk and cotton.
    Chanderi is a traditional
    ethnic fabric
    characterized by its
    lightweight, sheer texture
    and fine luxurious feel.
    Himroo

    woven from silk and zari on


    silk to produce variegated
    designs, woven on the principle
    of extra weft.
    Mashroo
    The warp and weft used
    were of two different
    materials (silk and cotton,
    cotton and linen, silk and
    wool or wool and cotton)
    in different colors.
