What is Limit?
Limit is a back bone of calculus

Derivatives Integrals
The Limit of a Function
The limit of a function describe how the function behaves as the
independent variable (x) gets closer and closer to a certain
number (constant).

The Limit of a Function
Definition : Consider a function f of a single variable x.
Consider a constant c which the variable x will approach (c may
or may not be in the domain of f). The limit, to be denoted by L,
is the unique real value that f(x) will approach as x approaches c.
In symbols, we write this process as

This is read, ‘‘The limit of f(x) as x

approaches c is L.”

1. What is the limit of the function as the as you approach 2 along the x-axis?
2. What is the y-value getting closer to?
Existence and Non of Limits

and the right hand limit are equal other

Limits is important in studying slope and area of a curve.
A limit may or may not exist.
