FARE QUOTE DISPLAY
The fare level is indicated by the class of service. Premium or
first class is the most expensive class of service. Economy or coach class, also called middle or standard class, is the standard level of service provided to passengers. Many carriers offer a premium coach class that is less expensive than first class but more expensive than coach. Depending on the carrier, this class of service may be called business class or club class. Many carriers also offer discounted economy classes that apply to travel in the economy class cabin but are less expensive than the full economy, coach, or middle class fare. Passengers who travel at a discount fare usually receive the same level of service as other economy or coach passengers, but the fares have various restrict-ions. Fare Basis A fare basis is a price category determined by the class of service and factors such as the destination, season, day of the week, one-way or round trip travel, advance purchase, or the length of the stay. Each fare basis has a primary code and one or more secondary codes. For instance, the YAP fare basis applies to travel in the economy class cabin and requires the ticket to be purchased before the departure date. The booking class, or booking code, is used to book a flight segment in the applicable class of service to obtain a specific fare basis. Fare Rules
Many fares have specific restrictions. For example, the
passenger may have to purchase the ticket a set number of days before departure. In some cases, the itinerary must originate and terminate at the same point, and the outbound and return segments must be booked on the same carrier. Other restrictions, such as a minimum stay, a Saturday stay-over, and penalties for cancelling or changing the itinerary, may also apply. Thus, discounted fares are often referred to as restricted fares. Obtaining a Fare Display The transaction code FQD is used to obtain a fare display, as follows: FQD<CITYPAIR>/<DEPARTUREDATE> Example FQDMELLAX/21AUG
This example requests fares from Melbourne to Los
Angeles for travel on 21 August. If no departure date is specified, fares will be displayed for the current date. To illustrate, assume a passenger plans to travel from Sydney to Hong Kong on 17 July. The following entry may be input to obtain a fare display: FQDSYDHKG/17JUL Either city codes or airports codes may be input. Each fare is shown on a separate line identified by a line number. The applicable fare basis code is shown for each fare. Fares are given in local currency, which in this case is EUR. The one-way fare and round-trip fare are shown in separate columns. If no one-way fare is displayed, the fare is only valid for round-trip travel. Any applicable advance purchase, date restrictions, minimum and maximum stay are also shown. The routing/mileage indicator is shown on the far right. If YY is displayed instead of an airline code, the fare applies to all carriers. The code R in the routing column indicates that the fare is based on the routing, and the code M indicates that the fare is based on mileage. Specifying a Carrier To option code /A is used to request fares for a specific airline, as follows: FQDBRUNCE/14SEP/AAF This example will display Air France fares as well as common fares applicable to all carriers. The system responds as follows:
