OBJECTIVES
 Understand the tourism industry in the Philippines
 Learn different resources of the Philippines
 Learn how the Philippines resources utilize in tourism
industry
 Know the different types of tourism in the Philippines; and
 Know the various popular destinations in the Philippines
INTRODUCTION
 The economic distribution on a micro level of activities
and services relative to tourism and hospitality to any
country, region, province or even the smallest barangay
always brings more positive impact when properly
managed. The percentage of economic contribution
relative to services and activities of tourism and
hospitality is measured thru TGVA.
 the tourism industry is very important to the Philippine
economy given its contribution to job creation and
revenue generation.
 The ratio of tourism direct gross value added (TDGVA) to
gross domestic product (GDP) recorded an average of
5.9% per annum for the years 2000-2012.
 Tourism related activities with the highest contribution
TDGVA include shopping, accommodation services, and
food and beverages services.

TYPES OF TOURISM IN THE
PHILIPPINES
 Beach and diving tourism
 Hiking tourism
 Research and education tourism
 Arts and crafts tourism
 Pilgrimage tourism
 Fiesta tourism
 Wellness tourism
Tourist attractions can;
 Contribute to government revenues, direct contributions are
generated by taxes on incomes from tourism, employment and
tourism businesses, and by direct levies on tourists such as
departures taxes.
 Provide employment
 Stimulate infrastructure investment
 Contribute to local economies
 Provide foreign exchange earnings
Other examples of tourist attractions are:

 Forest, national parks and reserves of flora and fauna


 Communities of different ethnicities
 Constructions and structures (old prisons, libraries, castles, bridges, skyscrapers,
among others) and historical places
 Cultural and sports events
 Art galleries and museums
 Botanical gardens and zoos
 Monuments
 Theme parks
 Historical trains and ships

The Muslim Millennial travelers

 The rise of Muslim travelers is projected that by 2020,


Muslim travel is set to generate an income of up to USD
220 billion, as reported in the Mastercard Crescent rating
Global Muslim Travel Index 2018. Based on the index this
is no small trend to ignored and cast aside especially by
those who are engaged in tourism and hospitality industry,
and to any country planning to capitalize on tourism
industry as major source of income
