NOISE POLLUTION
WHAT IS SOUND?
 Sound is everything that we hear.
 Anything capable of vibration and sending out
single or multiple frequencies can produce a
‘Sound’.
WHAT IS NOISE POLLUTION?
  Noise pollution or sound pollution refers to the
presence of excessive and disturbing noise (from
machines, transportation systems, aircrafts, trains,
etc) in the environment that is very harmful to the
physical and mental health of the living beings on
earth.
SOURCES OF NOISE POLLUTION
 Transportation systems
 Construction of buildings, highways, and streets.
 Bulldozers,digging machines,etc
 Vehicle horn,noise from silenecer of a bike,etc
SOURCES OF NOISE POLLUTION
 INDUSTRIAL NOISE:-
 Loud speakers, plumbing, boilers, generators.
 air conditioners, fans, and vacuum cleaners.
SOURCES OF NOISE POLLUTION

 HOUSEHOLD SOURCES:-
 Food Mixer,Grinder
 Vacuum Cleaner
 Washing machine and Dryer
 Air Conditioner,Straighter and curlers
 Cooler
 Loud speaker
 Neighbor's Barking Dog
EFFECTS OF NOISE POLLUTION ON HUMANS

 Chronic exposure to noise may cause noise-

induced hearing loss. Older males exposed to
significant occupational noise demonstrate
significantly reduced hearing sensitivity than
their non-exposed peers .
EFFECTS OF NOISE POLLUTION ON HUMANS

 Unwanted noise can damage physiological and

psychological health.
 Noise pollution can cause annoyance and
aggression, hypertension, high stress levels,
hearing loss, sleep distrubances, and other
harmful effects.
EFFECTS OF NOISE POLLUTION ON HUMANS

 High noise levels can contribute to cardiovascular

effects and exposure to moderately high levels
during a single eight hour period causes a
statistical rise in blood pressure.
EFFECTS OF NOISE POLLUTION ON HUMANS

 Hearing problems
DISEASES CAUSED BY NOISE POLLUTION
 High blood pressure
 Heart attack
 Deafness
 Annoyance
 Stress
 Anxiety
 Insomnia
REPRESENTATION OF PARTS AFFECTED
EFFECTS ON ANIMALS
 Damages nervous system
 Altering prey detection
 Creates problem in navigation
 They become dangerous and attacking
 Raise metabollism
 Genetic and evolutionary problems
WHAT IS NOISE?
 Noise is unwanted sound judged to be unpleasant,
loud or disruptive to hearing.
 The unbearable volume or voice or sound that is
not suitable for human ear.
MARINE LIFE AFFECTED DUE TO SHIPS AND THEIR NOISE
EFFECTS ON ENVIRONMENT
 Breakage of earth barrier
 Poor quality crops
 Damages bulidings, bridgesand monuments
 Weakness the edifice of buildings
CASE STUDY:-
PUNE THE NOISIEST CITY OF MAHARSHTRA

 According to the report, while the prescribed

daytime noise limit for industrial areas is 75
decibel (dB), the recorded level of noise in such
areas of Pune stood at 84.8 dB. For commercial
areas, Pune city recorded 86.7 dB, as against the
prescribed limit of 65 dB.
 Even in residential areas, the daytime record was
78.7 dB, against the prescribed limit of 55 dB.

MACHINE USED TO MEASURE NOISE POLLUTION

 The most common instruments used for

measuring noise are the sound level
meter(SLM), the integrating sound level
meter (ISLM), and the noise dosimeter.
 Most commanly used for vehicles with loud
honks and silencers.

WAYS TO CONTROL NOISE POLLUTION
 Sound insulation
 Sound absorption
 Vibration damping
 Vibration isolation
 Urban planning
 Public awareness and education
