Viewpoints of Images

• Viewpoints differ from person to person. The common perception on a


certain thing is called stereotyping.
• Stereotypes are over-generalized beliefs which create positive and negative
effect to the different groups.
• Stereotypes are beliefs that people within the same gender, age or cultural
group will act alike and will share the same viewpoints and attitudes.
• Stereotypes ignore differences which is considered as form of
discrimination.
• It may be true to some but not to all and neither be tolerated nor accepted.
Different types of stereotyping

1. Gender Profiling
A common stereotypes among men and women.

Men are strong and do all the work.


Men should be the family breadwinners,
Women are naturally and highly emotional beings.
Women suppose to know how to cook and clean.

2. Ageism or Age Stereotypes


Ageism is the stereotyping and
discrimination based on people’s age.
 Old people love staying on a quiet place.
 The older you get, the more mature you
become.
 Old people are slow and cannot adapt to
change.
 Youths are rebellious.

3. Cultural Stereotypes
Stereotypes also prevail in cultural. Examples are as
follows:

Filipinos are family-oriented.


They care for their elders.
Filipinos are hospitable.

Remember:

• Point-of-View is the standpoint/reflection of the opinion of


a person towards something.
• Viewpoints of Images are the POVs deal with one’s
personal opinion or perception about viewing materials,
such as videos and images or illustrations.
• Stereotyping are beliefs that that all people within the
same gender, age or cultural group will act alike and will
share the same viewpoints and attitudes.

Types of Stereotyping
1. Gender Profiling (among men and women)
2. Ageism or Age Stereotypes (Basis of their age)
3. Cultural Stereotypes (Prevails in culture)
