ONLINE SPELLING BEE
• CONTEST
This contest is open to all Elementary (Grade
5-6) and Junior High School only.
• The advisers will select at least two (2)
participants from the class.
• The contest is via Google meeting/ Zoom.
Link will be sent an hour before the
scheduled contest.
• Cellular or mobile phones are not allowed
during the contest, except for use in Google
Meet.
• Merriam Webster Dictionary (old and new
edition) will be used as reference.
• All contestants will spell same set of words in
writing. Before a word is read, the contestants
will raise their marking pens first.
• The word will be read twice by the quiz master.
After the first reading, the meaning of the
word will be given . Then the word will be read
again. After the second reading, the quiz
master will say “GO”; only then the
contestants be allowed to write the answer.
Automatically, a ten second time will begin
with the word “GO” by the quiz master.
• After the time limit, the timer rings. The
contestants should stop writing and show their
boards/ whiteboards with their answers.
• Words should be spelled in ALL CAPITAL
LETTERS. Failure to do so, the answer will be
invalid and mark as a wrong answer.
• Facilitators shall declare the correct answer.
• Point system shall be used. Scores will be reflected in the tally board and shall be
reflected in the written tally sheets.
• There will be four (4) rounds: EASY, AVERAGE, DIFFICULT AND CLINCHER
ROUNDS (Note: CLINCHER ROUND takes place only if there is a tie.)
• Points are assigned for each category.
EASY : 1 POINT
AVERAGE : 2 POINTS
DIFFICULT: 3 POINTS
CLINCHER: 5 POINTS
• The contestant who will get the highest points will be declared the winner.
• Sudden death rule applies in the clincher round.
• The winners will be given a perfect score/ exempted in 3 rd Monthly Examination and/ or
Prelim Examination in English (Elementary and JHS) and will received a digital
certificate.
