objectives of the study" (Ardales, 2001, p.203)
• Help readers understand the significance of the study
• Synthesize the main points of the research and answers the research question
• Must emphasize the main points discussed in the research results and data analysis section
of the paper
• Must summarize the main ideas and significance of the research
• Must be a synthesis of the arguments discussed and a reiteration of evidence presented in the
research
Tips on Formulating a Conclusion
(University of Southern California, 2016)
• A conclusion must be concise and direct to the point.
• A conclusion must be explained from specific to general. It starts by
explaining the research problem (specific). Then, it explains how the
study adds new understanding or fills an important gap in the literature
(general).
• A conclusion must briefly explain how the study contributes to new
knowledge or how it provides a new understanding or interpretation about
the research problem.
RECOMMENDATIONS

Are suggestions for future

studies based on the experiences
and major findings
RECOMMENDATIONS

Can be based on the following:

• Negative results of the study
• Positive results of the study
• Possible areas of research within the topic
