A team sports which is the most famous game in the
Philippines. The objective of the game of basketball is
to score points by throwing or dropping the ball
through the opposition’s basket and defending one’s
own basket so that the opposite team will not be able
to shoot the ball in one’s own goal and thereby, stop
the opponent from scoring. While opposite teams are
preventing their opponents from scoring a basket
while they are attempting to score their own baskets,
certain rules are needed to be observed in order
to have smooth games. While skills are being
developed in the regular playing of basketball
games, a better understanding of the rules of the
basketball
game will be very much necessary in order to get
along with the games.
Basketball was designed by Dr.
James Naismith was born in
Ramsay township, close to
Almonte in Ontario Canada in
1861. The idea of the game was
conceived during his initial school
days when he placed a basic game
known as duck-on-a-stone outside
his school building. The

game, a lot of people were fascinated in the

underwent great improvements in order to
make the game more entertaining and more

the score that the team will get
Court and Equipment
Basketball has a simple equipment. It
requires, first and foremost, a ball and a
basketball ring with a height of 10 feet
above the ground. Just like how it is in the
Philippines, basketball can be played in
almost any environmental setting. It can be
played outdoor, indoor, at a park, at the
beach, and in almost every corner of the
street, measures 94 feet x 50 feet. However,
court dimensions can vary depending on
the league and/or on the level. A basketball
court is a hard rectangular surface that is
free from obstructions. A professional
basketball court has a measurement of 28

FIBA, the brand of the ball used is Molten GL7 for men
and Molten GL6 for women. These basketballs typically
feature two different colors and are slightly bigger, with
a 30.7-inch circumference for the men’s basketball and
a 29-inch circumference for the women.
The game clock is a technical equipment that can
be started whenever the ball is in play. The game
clock stops whenever the ball goes out of
bounds, when there is a violation committed, or

• Center. The Center is the tallest player on the team. He is the defender on the rim at the team’s
basket and a constant threat on the other team’s basket.
