Invest for your Health

February 8 2020
“Health is
Wealth”
If your wealth is a number, your health would be
the leading “1” on a Php 1,000,000,000 (one
trillion pesos).

All the other zeroes represent your material

wealth – a house, a car, your investments, family,
friends, etc.

As you can see, without the “1” in front, it will

just be Php 0,000,000,000 which is basically
NOTHING.
• This is the same as your
health.  If you’re NOT healthy,
if you’re getting sick all the
time, all your riches do NOT
matter…
3 Stages in Life
• 1. Children or Teenager
Have good health and energy
Have time
But no money
2. Adults
May have good health/energy
Have money
But have no time
3. Old people
Have time
Have money
How about health? Quality of life?
• Statistically the average life
expectancy of all people in the
world is currently 66 years ( 64
years for males and 68 years for
females)
• Metuselah - Lived 969 years

What are we eating?

Experts warn that

We are storing up such an
potential health unhealthy diet
could lead to
problems by eating
increased risk of
a diet dominated cancer and
by junk foods. coronary heart
disease.
Leading Causes of Mortality
1. Heart Diseases
2. Vascular diseases - arteriosclerosis
3. Cancer
4.Pneumonia
5. Accidents
6. TB
7. Chronic Lower Respiratory Diseases
8. Diabetes Mellitus
Leading Causes of Morbidity
• 1. Acute Respiratory diseases
• 2. Acute Lower Respiratory Tract Infections

• 6. Influenza
• 7. UTI
• 8. TB
Scientific evidence show that
childhood dietary habits have a
role in the development of
chronic diseases in adulthood.

Therefore, an early
adoption of good dietary
habits is important.
Eating well should start early. If
children develop high blood
cholesterol or become overweight
they have a greater chance of
developing diet related diseases
such as diabetes and coronary
heart disease when they become
adults.
Manifestation of chronic disease early in
life tends to continue throughout life.
• Prevention is better than cure.
• It is far better to prevent disease
than to know how to treat it
when contracted.

My Childhood, My Lifestyle
I am the little “star” in the family, because of
my innate talents and looks. I indulged in socio-
civic organizations, essay writing competitions,
beauty pageants, fellowships and many gatherings.
My diet included fatty, salty foods and
cold iced tea. I was addicted to “junk food.”
I confess, I loved to eat cornchips (chips, in
general), salty flakes, etc. I loved to drink
cold cola with almost every meal and I had
little water intake.
My Journey
I remember when I was in high school,
I had frequent fevers and blood in my urine
specimen. My friends noticed sudden
edema on my face, legs and feet; but, I
mistook it as simple weight gain.
Ignorant on the proper management
on the disease, I did not fully
comprehend the proper food pyramid
that I should abide by and I continued on
with my habit of eating “garbage food.”
My Journey
When I got married at the age of 24,
the habit became worse. Our family’s diet
revolved on fatty, salty food that were
rich in protein and carbohydrates. When
I got pregnant, the cravings for these
foods increased. I concentrated on
canned, salty and processed foods so
much that I seldom ate fruits and
vegetables.
My Journey

In July 2003, I was diagnosed with

glomerulonephritis. I started on twice-a-week
hemodialysis. In 2009, I was diagnosed with
fibrous dysplasia and suspicious acromegaly.
When my medical insurance exhausted, I
felt so powerless, helpless and hopeless.
According to my father, my financial steward,
we already spent PHP7 Million (approximately
$155000) for almost 7 years of medication and
confinement.

what is not bread, and your wages
for what does not satisfy? Listen
carefully to Me, and eat what is

• But nowadays, diseases are everywhere and
seems it cannot be avoided.
• Sometimes, in simple cases or sickness, we
always think of going to the doctor and
receive medications for us to get cured.
• And we spent lots of money in the hospital
and medications.- Many are affected.
What can we do to avoid these
things?
The solution is : to educate the people
in right health principles.
