Introduction
• Begging is an act whereby a person
appeals to others for material help by
words or gestures.
• Beggars adopt several modes for appealing
to get alms. While some sing to attract
attention, others display wounds real or
faked-yet some emphasis on their
disabilities.
Types of Begging
1. Professional begging; they cry in front of you and ask for money in
the name of humanity/religion. They sing “songs” to seek attention.
They even read the verses from the bible or quran and ask people to
give them money in the name of God or Humanity.
2. Child Involvement begging; It is the worst form of begging. Child
beggars are the main focus of mafia.
3. Genuine begging; These are the beggars who have no choice but to
begging to fulfill their needs.
Causes of Beggary
• Economic Causes; like poverty and unemployment.
• Social Causes; such as: Family Disorganization, Lack of
parental control, Community disorganization and Break
up of joint family system.
• Physical Causes; such as physical handicapped and diseases.
• Religious Causes; such as among Hindus.
• Natural Disasters; such as earthquake and war.
• Psychological Factors; which they don’t have any excuse.
Effects of Begging
• Incapable of working or shouldering any responsibility.
• Increase of rates of crimes, addiction and stealings.
• Development of inferiority complex, lack of social
interaction, loss of self-respect and dignity.
• lack of education.
• Unproductivity.
Efforts to Eradicate Begging.
• Eradicate Poverty: Priority should be given to eradication of
extreme poverty. 
• Rehabilitation: Small shelters have to be made and they need
to be imparted skills that would help them land jobs.
• Aid Agency Needed: The rehabilitated should be provided free
medical diagnosis, financial support and ration to the beggars.
• Create Awareness: People should discourage beggars.
Begging flourishes because people tend to be generous.
Awareness should include community and beggers.
• Adjusting Law for begging by government.
