Diabetes
Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune reaction that attacks cells in your pancreas that produce insulin and is caused by
inherited genetics or environmental elements. Type 2 diabetes happens when your body becomes resistant to insulin
and is associated with genetics and lifestyle choice
Obesity
Obesity is a complex disease involving an excessive amount of body fat. Obesity isn't just a cosmetic concern. It's a
medical problem that increases the risk of other diseases and health problems, such as heart disease, diabetes, high blood
pressure and certain cancers

Obesity is generally caused by eating too much and moving too little. If you consume high amounts of energy,
particularly fat and sugars, but do not burn off the energy through exercise and physical activity, much of the surplus
energy will be stored by the body as fat.
Hypertension/High blood pressure
High blood pressure, also called hypertension, is blood pressure that is higher than normal. Your blood pressure
changes throughout the day based on your activities. Having blood pressure measures consistently above normal may
result in a diagnosis of high blood pressure

Primary hypertension can result from multiple factors, including: blood plasma volume. hormone activity in people who
manage blood volume and pressure using medication. environmental factors, such as stress and lack of exercise.
Iron Deficiency Anaemia
Iron deficiency anemia is a common type of anemia — a condition in which blood lacks adequate healthy red blood cells.
Red blood cells carry oxygen to the body's tissues. As the name implies, iron deficiency anemia is due to insufficient iron

This type of anemia is called iron-deficiency anemia. Your body needs a certain amount of iron to make hemoglobin, the
substance that moves oxygen throughout your body. However, iron-deficiency anemia is just one type
Dental Caries
Dental caries or cavities, more commonly known as tooth decay, are caused by a breakdown of the tooth enamel. This
breakdown is the result of bacteria on teeth that breakdown foods and produce acid that destroys tooth enamel and results
in tooth decay.Tooth decay

● toothache – either continuous pain keeping you awake, or occasional sharp pain without an obvious cause; it
can sometimes be painless.
● tooth sensitivity – you may feel tenderness or pain when eating or drinking something hot, cold or sweet.
● grey, brown or black spots appearing on your teeth.
● bad breath.
Anorexia nervosa
Anorexia nervosa — often simply called anorexia — is an eating disorder characterized by an abnormally low body weight,
an intense fear of gaining weight and a distorted perception of weight. People with anorexia place a high value on
controlling their weight and shape, using extreme efforts that tend to significantly interfere with their lives.

People with this disorder may go through long periods of fasting and eat little to nothing
Bulimia nervosa
Bulimia nervosa, commonly called bulimia, is a serious, potentially life-threatening eating disorder. People with bulimia
may secretly binge — eating large amounts of food with a loss of control over the eating — and then purge, trying to get rid
of the extra calories in an unhealthy way example: force vomiting
The effect of these diseases on the caribbean
These diseases have a negative effect on the caribbean because individuals with
these diseases require various special medication and treatment to afford them
the government has to use various taxation taking money from citizens thus
putting a strain on the economy
Vegetarian food
Vegetarianism is the practice of abstaining from the consumption of meat the only food consumed are those only made of vegetable products

Some vegetarian meals include:

Importance of a balanced diet
A balanced diet supplies the nutrients your body needs to work effectively. Without balanced nutrition, your body is
more prone to disease, infection, fatigue, and low performance. Children who don't get enough healthy foods may face
growth and developmental problems, poor academic performance, and frequent infections
Hypertension & sodium intake
When you eat too much salt, which contains sodium, your body holds extra water to "wash" the salt from your body. In
some people, this may cause blood pressure to rise. The added water puts stress on your heart and blood vessels
Low sodium foods
Fresh, frozen or dried fruits: Berries, apples, bananas, pears, and beans: Dried beans, brown rice, Starchy vegetables:
Potatoes, sweet potatoes,. Fresh or frozen: Chicken, beef or pork
