LET’S EXPLORE THE

HISTORY OF
ATMOSPHERE
Good Morning Everyone!
This is our presentation,
hope y’all enjoy it!!
HISTORY OF ATMOSPHERE
By the time the 17th century arrived, scientists had begun to

use new methods of inquiry to learn about the world. Yet, they

still had only vague ideas about what made up the air they

breathed. Issac Beekman was one of the first people to realize

that air had real substance.

HISTORY OF
ATMOSPHERE
Earth's original atmosphere was probably just hydrogen and
helium, because these were the main gases in the dusty, gassy
disk around the Sun from which the planets formed. The Earth
and its atmosphere were very hot. Molecules of hydrogen and
helium move really fast, especially when warm.
HISTORY OF ATMOSPHERE
After loss of the hydrogen, helium and other hydrogen-
containing gases from early Earth due to the Sun's radiation,
primitive Earth was devoid of an atmosphere. The first
atmosphere was formed by outgassing of gases trapped in the
interior of the early Earth, which still goes on today in
volcanoes.
WHAT IS ATMOSPHERE?
The envelope of gases
surrounding the Earth or
another planet part of the
sun’s energy is absorbed by
the Earth’s atmosphere
An atmosphere is a layer
of gas or layers of gases
that envelop a planet,
and is held in place by the
gravity of the planetary
body.
What does
atmosphere
mean?
An atmosphere is the layers of
gases surrounding a planet or
other celestial body. Earth's
atmosphere is composed of
about 78% nitrogen, 21%
oxygen, and one percent other
gases.
ATMOSPHERE DERIVED FROM?
• ATMOSPHERE comes from new Latin
atmosphaera , a compound noun
composed of Greek atmós ’’vapor, steam,
odor’’ and sphaira “ball, globe, terrestrial
or planetary sphere, eyeball, boxing
gloves.’’
THIS ARE THE 5 LAYERS
OF THE ATMOSPHERE
EXOSPHERE
THERMOSPHERE
MESOSPHERE
STRATOSPHERE
TROPOSPHERE
TROPOSPHE
RE
-This is the lowest part of the
atmosphere - the part we live in.
It contains most of our weather -
clouds, rain, snow.
STRATOSPHERE

-This extends upwards from the

tropopause to about 50 km. It
contains much of the ozone in
the atmosphere.
MESOSPHERE
-The region above the stratosphere is
called the mesosphere. Here the
temperature again decreases with
height, reaching a minimum of about -
90°C at the "mesopause".
THERMOSPHER
E
-The thermosphere lies above the
mesopause, and is a region in
which temperatures again
increase with height.
EXOSPHERE
-The region above about 500 km is called the
exosphere. It contains mainly oxygen and
hydrogen atoms, but there are so few of them
that they rarely collide - they follow
"ballistic" trajectories under the influence of
gravity, and some of them escape right out
into space.
WHY ATMOSPHERE IS IMPORTANT?

Not only does it contain the oxygen we need to live, but it also

protects us from harmful ultraviolet solar radiation. It creates the

pressure without which liquid water couldn't exist on our planet's

surface. And it warms our planet and keeps temperatures habitable

for our living Earth

Why is atmosphere called?
It contains the oxygen that we breath as well as other
important gases such as nitrogen, carbon dioxide, water vapor,
and ozone. It protects us from the Sun's harmful rays, burns
and destroys meteors that are headed toward Earth, and it
keeps our planet from having extreme temperature
The question is, can we live WITHOU
ATMOSPHERE??
No, Because without the
atmosphere (giving us air to
breathe and protection from
incoming solar rays), there would
be no life on Earth. It would be
as barren as the moon. Without
water, life as we know it would
cease
WELL..........
IT ONLY MEANS
ONE THING, WE
CAN'T LIVE
WITHOUT
ATMOSPHERE!
ATMOSPHERE IS
SO COOL ISN'T IT?
NOW, LET'S TRY TO
