POLICIES AND
PROCEDURES
Health is one of the most important facet in
everyone’s life. Every individual nowadays are
very conscious when it comes to maintaining a
healthy body. Part of the daily routine of a healthy
person is to protect himself/herself from any
disease by being aware of their food intake, having
their daily exercises, and protecting themselves
from all types of microorganisms which can be a
source of infection.
WHAT IS INFECTION?

Infection – can be defined as the growth of


microorganism in our body which may cause
disorder and may affect the different parts of our
body. In order to maintain the well being of a
client, controlling the transmission of any
communicable diseases must be applied in any
home care institution.
Infection Control – is a method of protecting an
individual or a client from the spread of a disease.
There are policies and procedures to be done on
controlling the transmission of an infection from
one person to another.
Policy – means a rule or strategy which is
applicable in controlling the infection from
spreading.
Hazard – a risk which can put the life of an
individual into harm or danger.
HOW DO WE KNOW IF SOMEBODY IS IN
DANGER?
The danger infection must be foreseeable before
you can assess the risk of infection in any
workplace. If the hazard was identified, you must
list down the safety procedures needed to avoid or
control the infection.
WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY INFECTION
RISK ASSESSMENT?

Infection Risk Assessment – is a process of


checking the hazards or harm present or
which can be seen in any workplace. It can
also be defined as finding the signs and
symptoms of infection in a patient or client.
To control the continuous growth and spread
of infection, different policies and procedures
must be followed.
Here are some of the policies and procedures in
controlling the spread of infection:

1. Effective hand washing


2. Use of personal protective equipment
3. Accurate and efficient method of
maintaining clients personal hygiene and their
equipment.
4. Proper handling and disposal of waste
material.
5. Practice of infection control both from the
environment and the human being.
WHAT IS HANDWASHING?

Hand washing – is one of the most


important of controlling the spread of
infection if it was done in an appropriate
manner.
Basically proper hand washing should be
performed:
1. Before and after an interaction or touching
the client.
2. Before and after taking a meal
3. After using the comfort room and after using
the bed pan for the client.
4. Proper handling and disposal of waste
material.
5. Practice of infection control both from the
environment and the human being.
