It’s used when we focus on the action rather than who or what did the action.
We put the receiver of an action as the subject and the doer as the object .

We use the correct form of ‘be’ followed by the past participle of the main verb.
We feed our cat twice a day. Our cat is fed twice a day.

PASSIVE VOICE
We use passive verbs when we are more interested in who or what is affected by the action of
the verb rather than who or what does the action.
We don’t know who did the action.
When who or what did something is obvious.
My phone was made in China. The focus is on my phone rather than the
workers or the company that made it.
You were given a lot of homework to do on Who is the focus, not the homework or the
teachers who gave the homework.
the holidays.
My bike was stolen yesterday. I don’t know who stole it.
This opera was composed by Mozart. Mozart is the person who did the action.
*To say who or what did the action we can add a ‘by’ phrase.
