INTRODUCTION OF

SAND BLASTING,
VACCUM BLASTING AND
FLAME CLEANING
SAND BLASTING
• Sand blast cleaning, is a surface treatment
process widely used in a variety of
different industries with many diverse
purposes.
• Sand blasting is the process by which an
abrasive media is accelerated through a
blasting nozzle by means of compressed
air.
SAND BLASTING CLEANSING PROCESS

• As we are acquainted with different cleaning procedures adopted to clean

different surfaces. Sand blasting is one of such cleansing process which makes the
use of light particles as propellants to project it on the required surface. It makes
use of different abrasive materials as a part of its cleaning procedure. This process
is mainly preferred by the industries and the construction firms to get rid of the
unwanted particles from the surface. It can be used to clean the surface, remove
the paint, get rid of the rusts, and etch the surface to provide a shinier look.
TOP USES OF SAND BLASTING

• Removal of rust spots from the metal is one of the

primary use of sand blasting.
• Paint removal from homes and commercial offices is
something else the sand blasting process can be used
for.
ADVANTAGES OF SAND BLASTING

• Quick removal of contaminants: This process helps in quick removal of the

deposits of the contaminants on different surfaces.
• Less machinery involved: This process does not make use of complex
machineries.
• Abrasive action: The materials which are used in the projection are highly
abrasive and have an aggressive action on the surfaces. •
• Fit for tough surfaces like concrete: The powerful action of the process can
remove deposits even from tough surfaces like concrete.
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

• It is important to be aware of the necessary safety precautions that need to be put

into place before home or industrial sandblasting can take place. Take note of the
following:
• Wear safety goggles to protect your eyes;
• Make use of protective gloves;
• Ensure that you wear a mask to avoid inhaling the tiny particles of debris;
• To avoid a big clean-up, wear old clothes oroveralls.
VACCUM BLASTING
• Vacuum blasting is an abrasive blasting
method, also referred to as dustless blasting or
closed loop abrasive blasting.
• The method is characterized by a blast tool
that does abrasive blasting and collects both
used blast media, and loosened particles from
the surface to be treated, simultaneously.
PROCEDURE

• The blast tool is equipped with a blast hose and a suction hose, that both run
from the blast tool to a control unit.
• The control unit supplies the blast tool with pressurized air mixed with blast
media, and sucks back dust, loosened particles and used blast media.
• The control unit continuously separates dust and loosened particles from the
used blast media, and sends used blast media back into the pressurized air flow.
• The dust and loosened particles are collected in a waste bin.
APPLICATIONS

• The method is typically used in areas where dust and spill from
regular abrasive blasting is not wanted, for example due to
HSE-considerations.
• The blast process itself is slower than regular abrasive blasting,
but requires less sheeting and scaffolding
ADVANTAGES

• A major advantage of vacuum blasting is that this dirt is

immediately collected with this technique.
• This saves a lot of mess and clean up after the blasting process.
The material that is collected is sorted and can then be reused as
blasting media.
FLAME CLEANING

• Flame cleaning, also known

as flame gouging, is the
process of cleaning a
structural steel surface by
passing an intensely hot
oxyacetylene flame over it.
